an animal that is backed into a corner will fight without remorse and go down swinging. Ukraine, the money launderer for the Democratic party isn’t worth WW3 or at min a tac nuke to the region.

Russia started the war.

Much like the US learned, you can start a war very easily but stopping it is hard.

Those were legit targets.

Neither one of those ships were being scrapped.

“Have we time-traveled back to 1960?”

Not all of us, just the Russian military.

“You sure are happy about us doing everything we can to start a nuclear war.”

If that were true, we could just push one button and be done with it, LOL.

“I am sure Putin is quaking in his boots at all the trannies...”

Rather ironic since Pootie wears high heels.

Also, that might have been the cost when first built.

The sub was laid down in 2011 and commissioned in 2014 or 2015. A relatively young boat. Other figures are $300M and $450M (including some significant upgrades).

One would think that a country would keep such valuable resources out of a war zone or at least put a good shelter over them.

We never did completely shout down the German U-Boat facilities after bombing them for months.

“an animal that is backed into a corner will fight without remorse and go down swinging”

You’ve just unintentionally described Ukraine, not Russia.

Russia can go home anytime it pleases and still have 100% of the territory it had before it started this war.

Looks like this was indeed a submarine that received some publicity from Russia. I know little or nothing about submarine warfare, so I’m a little surprised it was just sitting out in the open in a nearby dock.

If this gets escalated to a a hot war with Russia, I’m afraid the entire world will learn that.
1. Nobody’s ships are safe (military and civilian).
2. How darn important having ships are to our economy and way of life.

Neither one of those ships were being scrapped.

Agreed. The sub was only about 12 years old. See post 30.

Again, I post that if The USA truly means that they are supporting the Ukes with all and whatever it takes, they should start a crash urgent program of drone and missile production for them. Flood the Ukes with all the attack drones and cruise missiles they can produce here urgently and hit Russia where it hurts. Everywhere. Including mixed use targets so the Russian people feel just as much misery or more than the Ukes have felt. Railroads, roads. Ports, fuel depots, food distribution centers, medical supplies. Make it hurt so much that Putin has to ask if his invasion is worth continuing.
As soon as Trump is re elected drill drill drill everywhere and drop the price if crude where Russia can’t make anything selling theirs. Starve them out and force them to withdraw. See if I’m wrong. I’m betting I’m not.

Both the transport and the submarine will need a few years in the dockyards or will eventually go to the wreckers. Both of them are irreplaceable.

The facts are, Russia is losing hardware and trained personnel faster they can can replace them, to US and NATO leftovers.

For all the talk about how the US and Ukraine are really "losing", I'm still waiting for an explanation of how Russia is "winning".

One would think that a country would keep such valuable resources out of a war zone or at least put a good shelter over them.

You generally put your ports (and hence your drydocks) where geography allows. Sevastopol has been a major port for several hundred years. If you put covers on your drydocks that are strong enough to protect them you may not be able to fit ships under the covers.

Russia has had an issue with Sub Maintenace. So has most of the world, since they are very expensive and dangerous if things fail.

I am not sure about the published numbers of American subs in dock at any one time, but the tempo has slowed down since the cold war. Crimea has a lot of naval infrastructure, warm climate, and is a great place for a naval rebuild yard.

Till it isn’t.

For your last two statements I suggest you read some of Peter Zeihan’s books. You are correct, but it might not be state on state action. As the US retreats from the stage, you will see more and more piracy. That is going to impact shipping just as bad as a peer on peer conflict.

the battlefield is no place for antiques.

LOL

Don't tell the Russians, they're showing off T-55s!

We know this because the unit operating the T-55s, the 1430th Motorized Rifle Regiment, proudly showed off the 1950s-vintage tanks in a video on its official Telegram channel on or just before Sunday.

The video depicts the 1430th MRR’s conscripts with early-model T-55s sporting L-2G infrared spotlights atop their D-10T 100-millimeter main guns.

The spotlight, and any target it illuminates, is visible in the T-55 gunner’s active infrared sight out to a distance of several hundred yards. The problem is, the spotlight also is visible to any enemy forces with infrared optics.
