Uncle Sam Is Spending $100 Million To Repair or Replace Broken EV Chargers
AutoEvolution ^ | 09/13/23 | Florin Amariei

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) was announced last year with a budget of $5 billion. It was meant from the get-go to help states, agencies, and local authorities advance EV charging over a five-year period. The plan was to spend around $1 billion every 12 months.

Around $500 million were set aside so federal authorities could direct funds exactly where they wanted them to be used. One such case is fixing or outright replacing existing EV chargers that are no longer in use or have been abandoned. The initiative consumes 20% of that budget.

So if the government paid for the EV chargers and now needs to pay for repairs to said charges, why do I need to pay for a charge? Are the EV chargers public or private property?

I also love the government funding EV chargers but not the repairs.... 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐

I didn’t vote for this!
And how do EVs pay the road tax in gas prices?

If the failure rate of chargers is so high, it must be because there is no profit in the sale of electricity at the point of sale to cover land and equipment. It’s not like we’re talking about antiques and old broken down second hand junk.

C’mon man. This is just like when government built gas stations all across American and created the greatest, most vast and durable transportation network infrastructure in the world.

The fact of the matter is that government can’t do anything right today. It’s because 99% of government employees are worthless rejects that can’t make it the private sector.

Think about this: it used to be that a man with an 8th grade education could open a service station, sell gasoline and repair automobiles. He could do that while raising a family with four or five children. Everyone in government is far less than a man like that. They are pathetic, anti-American pieces of chit.

If this whole insane system was rational people who run gas stations would install and maintain their own chargers - for a competitive price.

I don’t want Pervert Biden to pay for gas station repairs either.

If the failure rate of chargers is so high...

I’ve read that copper thieves cut off the charging cables. That might be why the chargers are ‘failing’. And in the name of ‘equity’ the government likely wants to place the chargers close to where the thieves live.

Comsidered “infrastructure” because the government wants people in EVs.

They may pay for yours but they will then put conditions on your charger you’d never agree to.

“why do I need to pay for a charge?”

If the government pays for the water pipes to your house, you still need to pay for the water that comes out of them.

didn’t we already pay a property tax?

The proper question is “why is government in the water business?”

“If this whole insane system was rational people who run gas stations would install and maintain their own chargers - for a competitive price.”

The EV supporters say that government subsidy is necessary until a “critical mass” of EVs and charging stations is reached. Then private investors will become interested.

I’m not sure where an EV is now cost-effective against our “orchestras of pistons”. Perhaps delivery vehicles or buses, but I don’t see those around where I live.
