A meeting Tuesday of South Carolina lawmakers considering how to best counter future pandemics was dominated by vaccine skeptics pushing concerns about COVID-19 immunizations that are unaccepted by the greater medical community.
Members of the all-Republican panel seeking more independence from federal health regulators were receptive to speakers who sewed doubt about vaccine safety and efficacy, as well as distrust in the scientific establishment. Testimony began with an hourlong presentation from Aaron Siri, the managing partner at a New York law firm that 2021 tax filings show received over $3 million from an influential Texas-based group that campaigns against vaccine requirements.
“What I don’t want us to do is follow the regimented FDA, whatever the federal government tells us,” Republican state Sen. Billy Garrett told Dr. Edward Simmer, the director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Sadly, the greater medical community let us down. Doctors
are under pressure to favor the vaccine.
Do like the Indian state did, hand out Ivermectin, Vitamin D3, Zinc and Azithromycin. For a couple of bucks on the large scale one Indian state prevented the pandemic for an extremely small amount of money.
How about if Republican politicians would follow the science instead of believing every crazy antivax conspiracy out there?
There is ample evidence to support the use of vaccines as a public health measure. We have been using vaccines for hundreds of years with fantastic results.
I highly suspect that those who have been pushing antivax propaganda are deliberately targeted conservatives with the goal of causing more conservatives to die or be afflicted with the constellation of symptoms called “Long Covid.” They certainly aren’t pushing antiscience because they want us to be healthy.
1. Gene therapy biologics are not typical “vaccines” using killed or even live virus. The SCIENCE can’t even tell us with any certainty what the long term effects are of messing with our genes or suppressing normal immune response.
2. Once I believe I’ve been lied to about anything, there is almost no chance I’ll trust that source to not lie again.

Please do a FOIA. What are the numbers? Where is this surge in COVID? I’m in GA next door to SC. I look at the numbers. New COVID cases haven’t been this low since March 2020.
Check the Medicare and Medicaid numbers. They are a barbell of the young and the old.... the most vulnerable in most cases.

Yes, the pressure is tremendous. “Do I take the money or do I take care of my patients”?
COVID is neither R nor D, neither Left or Right. COVID targets the elderly and those obese and with other co-morbidities. Americans, both R and D, both L and R are obese. Many of use are elderly. Many of us are both. COVID does not care.

It is “Do I practice medicine or do I do the right thing”.
1. In order for something to be gene therapy, it must be able to enter the cell nucleus and interact with DNA with the help of enzymes. Gene therapies are DNA based. mRNA only exists within the cell cytoplasm, meaning that it is physically separate from the DNA. In addition, mRNA cannot alter the DNA. Only proteins can alter DNA, and mRNA is not a protein.
2. I have no idea who you think lied to you about what. I do know that if you have been reading antivax websites, one of the ways they get you is by convincing you that all of the experts are lying. If you want to believe that someone who sells “supplements” and has no experience or education in infectious disease somehow has some “insider” knowledge and that the tens of thousands of experts who work in actual vaccine and infectious disease research are lying, there is not much I can say. Although I do question your critical thinking ability.
3. It is true that you have the right to reject science based medical treatments. And you have the right to give quacks your money for questionable “treatments.” You’re the one who will have to face the consequences.
Agreed, but that choice wouldn't line corporate bank account, and therefore poltician pockets. It also served to highlight to the powers that be which segments and/or individuals (and I have no doubt that data has already been mined regarding who has not complied with government vaccine 'suggestions').
