The microchip shortage seems the most likely answer for this. Maybe if one knew what system on the car would be inoperable because of a needed chip, they might be able to sell them anyway. I know if I were to buy a new car & it had a feature I didn’t want anyway, I might be convinced to buy that vehicle without that certain feature, providing of course there was a savings involved. Another thing that might have to happen in an effort to move some of these vehicles would be to utilize one vehicle’s parts to make a salable vehicle. A good solution would be to design & build simpler vehicles where needed parts would be known to be available BEFORE beginning assembly. In other words, leave off some of the gadgetry known to cause expensive problems down the line. Vehicles could be built cheaper & sold cheaper.

At 34.382469, -83.118090 there is Joey’s Auto and Truck Parts Inc. and across the road is Lance Auto Parts.

But their cars aren’t new and shiny - well not a lot of them.

“So why would there be hundreds of cars parked in a field near a cow pasture a few miles on the outskirts of town?”

A possibility:

Honda has a ‘transfer/holding’ lot in rural Montana (I can’t remember the name of the town but it’s in eastern Montana) for cars from Japan and American made Hondas on their way to the west coast — it’s akin to the FedEx hub in Tennessee except it has vehicles rather than packages...

I just checked on googled earth and saw a large junk yard full of cars, but I also found what looked like a 3rd party upfitter called Fox Factory that had several newish looking pickup trucks of all makes.

I’m looking at the pictures on my phone. There were new cars in the field. All pretty and shiny and lined up in rows.

I bought my Mercedes at the Lake Worth location. Not a bad deal, if you can accept slightly damaged cars for a reasonable price.

The entirety of 327 has only that auto parts business. For the past few years there has been nothing else that could have been field/s of parked cars.
