Chris Wallace anchored MTP for a short year (1987-1988).

Tim Russert died June 13, 2008, while working in the NBC Washington Bureau (MTP 1991-2008). RIP.

Thanks for the info. It's hard to understand how Fox would have hired Wallace to replace Tony Snow given that they would have been able to see how bad he is from viewing tapes of this.

Rumour was back in ‘08 that the bright analytics guy Todd kneecapped Gregory to get the job.

I forgot about Wallace, but wasn’t paying much attention then.

Russert was good, he’s remembered fondly, and probably was better than past or present piers, but he was a D Senatorial aide for Moynihan prior to MTP, iirc, he just hid his bias better. This continued the lines of succession from capitol hill to network Sunday shows.
