Army National Guard units with a Civil War-era lineage were ordered to relinquish any Confederate battle streamers from their guidons, but dozens of the streamers have yet to be recovered a week after the deadline

The National Guard is supposed to be under state control except in national emergencies. So if a governor wants the streamers gone, they are gone. Otherwise, they stay.
Yes, I know I’m dreaming here. The states are no longer states. They are mere provinces of the all-powerful federal government. So if some bureaucrat in DC commands it, so it must be done.

Its good for global business-banks etc. to have a centralized system of government-laws so that business can be conducted without confusion or disruption across geographical borders.

West Virginia and Maryland?
West Virginia split from Virginia to stay with the union.
Maryland never succeeded and did not join the confederacy.
Some Marylander’s wanted to secede but not a majority. Maryland was a slave holding, border state that profited on South agrarianism and Northern mercantilism.
Strange position to be in.
So, the units that fought on the Confederate side in a particular battle have to turn in their streamers, but the units that fought on the Union side in the same battle get to keep theirs? Sounds about right, coming from Milley.
Hand salute.
This is our history.
