Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis is asking the court to protect prospective jurors in her criminal case against former President Donald Trump and 18 others indicted for trying to overturn the 2020 election results in the state.
The Hill reported that Willis filed a petition with the court Wednesday seeking to "[p]revent any [d]efendant, members of the press, or any other person from videotaping, photographing, drawing, or otherwise creating or publishing images of the jurors or prospective jurors inside or outside the courtroom."
The report said she also wants the court to stop defendants, press, or others from "publishing any verbal or written descriptions of any information that would assist persons in determining the identity of any jurors or prospective jurors, specifically physical descriptions, telephone numbers, addresses, employer names, and membership affiliations of all jurors or prospective jurors."
According to The Hill, the filing included affidavits from Atlanta Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum and the assistant chief investigator of the DA's office technology unit regarding alleged "doxing and harassment" experienced by Willis and the grand jury members responsible for the indictments.
"The effects of the widespread national and international media coverage on individuals associated with this case is real and substantial," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Willis writing in the 14-page motion.
Willis said grand jurors in the case had personal information published across websites "with the intent to harass and intimidate them."
The almost 100-page indictment was handed down on Aug. 14, accusing Trump and the others of violating the state's Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organization statute, which is normally used to prosecute organized crime figures and drug-ring kingpins, the Associated Press reported at the time.
