This is a common tactic of the Feds, they go after the weakest link in the case, threaten them with significant jail time, knowing full well the person can’t defend themselves, offer them a deal to go free so long as they testify against the primary defendants.
You have some basic IT guy that has probably never been in any real trouble, gets a plum job as IT director at Mar-Al-Lago and all of a sudden, gets threatened with years in jail. The majority of people would roll over and testify against whoever the goverment told me to testify against.
