When I was in the Army I had a Sgt Major try to get me to go to officer school. He said we need more smart ones in the officer ranks who have been enlisted.
“He said we need more smart ones in the officer ranks who have been enlisted.”
During the time I was in the second time, I had a degree and came back in enlisted. A couple of officers were trying to entice me to go on the weighted hat and I chose not to because I felt I was accomplishing more in the trenches than in the command center.
Another problem, one I hope they have addressed since I retired active, is that there is a push back concerning the change from enlisted to officer and it was effecting promotion in the officers’ side of the house. Also, the separation in the two factions and how each was expected to maintain themselves was also a problem as when the enlisted joined the officer’ ranks they went either one way or the other hard expecting extreme military bearing or a little more laxed. Both created a problem for each side of the boat.
