DING, DING, DING. Yes, this is THE key point, JoSixChip. And yet, in the Republican debate, DeSantis doubled down on the notion that election integrity is no big deal. He called it a "briar patch" issue! He doesn't want to get bogged down talking about it...
What DeSantis IS excited to talk about is climate change. Why? Well, Ron is now a veteran in hurricane disasters. Look at what happened... Idalia ripped into Tallahassee and knocked down a huge tree in his backyard. But Captain Courageous stared down the mighty storm and chased it off to Georgia. Just like in Iraq: the Navy JAG Corp lawyer came through with flying colors! He deserves another Bronze Star.
And yet, strangely, Republican voters are not giving him the credit he deserves. Ron is probably saying to himself:
It is good to see DS still on the job he was elected to
do. Isn’t it ‘funny’ low and behold a great storm suddenly
appeared and Ron found he must stop campaigning for Pres. It
is almost as though Someone On High spoke to him saying
“Ron, step back your time will come”. That is OMO but will stick to it :-)
Amen
Name-calling is so adult. /s
He bashed the idea in his most recent public statements.
Yes, that is a flip flop from earlier public statements, as your video link demonstrates. It is a flip in the direction that I prefer, which is why I praised it.
Politicians lie and misdirect. It is what they do. I can support the politicians that tell the lies I want to hear - as long as they can be forced to actually do some of the things they promised.
DeSantis has actually done a few things that severely impaired Democrat vote fraud in Florida. He has also fired a few of the right people in that government. He has backed up some of his words with deeds.
I will spot DeSantis some credit for his most recent statements and forgive him some of his earlier statements. My only problem with DeSantis is his big money backers from the Bush faction of the Deep State.
I was quite impressed with DeSantis as governor of Florida. I had great hopes earlier that he would be the best candidate for President. Not so much now.
Trump is a flawed candidate. He says most of the right things and has actually done some of them. The Deep State beat him in his first term, simply because he was not ruthless enough. And frankly, they snookered him with the COVID program.
DeSantis is a flawed candidate. He just isn't charismatic and never can be. He says some of the right things and has actually done some of them. But he has taken too much money from Deep State backers, and I don't know if he can get free of those ties.
Ramaswamy is an illusionist. He says almost all of the right things and has never actually done any of them. He came out of nowhere to sudden prominence on campaign shows which have been superbly executed by professionals. His personal fortune was made by institutional investors who backed him, and he owes them big time. I do not trust anybody from those companies.
I don't trust Ramaswamy. But he has materially changed the script of the campaign show. If he was compelled to do the stuff he has talked about, he would be a great President.
But who am I kidding? Vivek Ramaswamy will never do any of the things he has talked about. And I doubt he can be elected to even pretend to do them. My assessment is that he is a plant to drain support from DeSantis. A task which DeSantis has made all too easy.
At this point, I am still voting for Trump. It is a sentimental thing. I do not believe it will affect the results of the "election".
"The most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in American political history" (as Joe Biden once blurted out in an October 2020 campaign speech) will settle the results of the 2024 "election".
And if that does not work, maybe "They" will blunder us into a nice big war that allows them to cancel the "Our Democracy" show altogether. It was in its' last season anyway.
How about a remake of the "1000-Year Reich" with America as the fascist nation and a Democrat legislature appointing Der Letzte Fuehrer? The Hollywood scriptwriter strike will surely be settled in time to get the first season ready for January 2025.
We are not going to vote our way out of the problems coming for us. Nobody is coming to save us. We must save ourselves.
“You mean like how he is against supporting Ukraine one day, and for it the next? Or whether he’ll vote for Trump or not? It all depends on what he is told to do by his handlers. Ya, he’s a man of conviction all right. LOL”
I thought you were not going to deal with my “games” anymore?
So go away. I’m not interested in you or your views.
How do you trust DeSantis is not just telling you/us something that is only true in the moment and for his personal gain?
Ron's all over the place on the war in Ukraine.
For years, DeSantis was publicly both effusive and specific in his praise for President Trump, from his commitment to freedom, successes with the economy, military, judges, handling China to Trump's (and Fauci's) leadership on COVID. His only complaint at the time was the President should have closed national travel.
Now DeSantis is saying the opposite.
On top of this, for his kickoff earlier this year DeSantis rewrote his hagiography erasing his years in Congress --- for obvious reasons --- and hiding his actual record on handling COVID in "the free state" of Florida.
The problem for DeSantis is not one "flip-flop". It's that his entire campaign is based on fabrications.
We need many more people doing that. The climate Nazis have come close to making it illegal to speak the truth.
Yours is an excellent if gloomy summation. While I share your pessimism l am not without hope. Miracles happen.
I cannot trust any politician. Incentives matter, and the entire political system has major incentives for lying. Deeds, not words are what matters.
DeSantis has a record of deeds which looks fairly good. Not perfect. Not even "good enough". But about as much as we can ever get from a politician.
I can say the same about Trump.
I cannot say much about Vivek Ramaswamy. There is no record of any deeds there to check. His words sound great, most of the time.
And all of the other alternatives are much, much worse. We must go with what we see as the best of a lot of rather poor choices.
And just what are those deeds?
2) He fired a prosecutor who refused to prosecute criminals and richly deserved firing for that reason alone.
3) He demolished the special privileged status of the Disney Corporation in Florida. Or at least made a good start in that direction.
No, he did not do all that stuff (and more) by himself. He has a supportive legislature backing him, without which he would have accomplished nothing. Executives are always in a weaker position than they appear to be. The job requires acting skills to overcome that problem.
Bear in mind that DeSantis is a distant second choice in my rankings. I still must give him credit for things he has done or actions he has supported. I find that I tend to get more of what I praise from people around me and perhaps that can scale up to wider circles. The odds seem low, but it is still worth a try. Something always beats nothing.
Nobody is coming to save us. We must save ourselves. I don't look to any one political "leader" as a complete answer.
Fair answer, thank you.
I think DeSantis is not the right man for these times. He, IMO, has not developed a strong enough backbone or core and is still too ripe for Uniparty/donor control.
Had Ron been honest with himself he would have chosen to wait, support Trump fully and gone on to serve in Trump’s administration in the last half of Trump’s second term -— possibly as SOS.
Unfortunately, DeSantis allowed himself to be blinded by the glitter surrounding his own reflection, and may have done irreparable damage to his national political future as a result.
Well, she’s some kind of a plant…..
