Ron DeSantis did what he does best during Hurricane Idalia: Govern
NY Post ^ | 2 Sep 2023 | Kevin D Williamson

“It is an ill wind that blows no man to good,” as the proverb says. In the case of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, one might add a much-abused adverb: literally.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida this week, bad news for everybody living in Florida except for one man: Ron DeSantis, who in the past has shown that this sort of everyday executive work — governor stuff — is something that he is pretty good at.

Taking time off from his recent political shtick, DeSantis was on the phone with President Biden while members of his administration were negotiating with their federal counterparts to get FEMA to pick up a larger share of the recovery costs than the usual 75 percent.

Some 40,000 utility workers were mobilized to get the lights back on where powerlines were down.

Florida’s post-hurricane work has been methodical and effective. (Oh, and the Governor’s Mansion was almost destroyed by a falling oak tree.)

Not the way DeSantis won it, flipping almost the entire state red.

Ask yourself this. Trump has been leading the Republican Party nationwide since 2016. Are the Democrats across the country today more or less powerful than they were?

DeSantis has been leading the GOP in Florida since 2018. Are Democrats in Florida today more or less powerful than they were?

DeSantis destroyed the Florida Democratic Party.

Trump sends Democrats to Washington.

That's the difference.

That’s weird. They just had a huge session on homeowners insurance the last session they just finished. Lots of good laws. Homeowners is 2100 on my home. Property taxes are 2075. Auto insurance is 2500. Guess what? My property taxes alone in Maryland were 8500. Florida wins!

Not a chance.

DeSantis is the greatest governor in this country yet he's endlessly slandered on the supposed "conservative" forum as a Bush/Rove plant by people supporting a gun-banning New York liberal who staffed his entire administration with Bush's JV team.

It's Trump supporters here who owe the rest of us an apology. And we're going to remember them when Trump gets clobbered in 2024 and the Democrats take back the House, keep the Senate, and replace Thomas and Alito on the Supreme Court.

Of course, they'll just cry, "STOLEN ELECTION!!!" and roll Trump back out in 2028.

It should be noted that DeSantis won re-election by a lesser % than Crist did in 2006 (as a Republican) and minimally more than Jeb despite DeSantis running against a weak candidate who switched parties, and DeSantis outspending Crist by 7x.

DeSantis
2022 59.37%
2018 49.59%

Gov. Rick Scott Florida
2015 - 2019 48.14%
2011 - 2015 48.87%,

Republican
Gov. Charlie Crist
Florida 2007 - 2011 63.98%

Republican
Gov. Jeb Bush Florida 1999 - 2007 55.27%; 56.0

It doesn’t take much to organize agencies beneath your supervision if you aren’t worried more about what the media will think or say. Ron DeSantis is good at organization. We have seen such little evidence of competence in government (local, state, or federal) over the past few decades that it is no wonder the media is shocked.

The media was so prepared with their attack articles on DeSantis in regards to the destruction in Florida from the hurricane, I suspect they were pre-written. When roadways were repaired, power restored, and those needing assistance received it, I suspect those articles had to be totally re-written to the point that the original articles were of no use and had to be totally discarded (or saved for later use).

DeSantis is a great Governor. We need more governors such as he in this nation. I don’t think he is yet ready to be President. However, given him 8 to 10 or so more years and he will be.

Who cares? He won re-election, which is more than Trump could manage. Most importantly, he has turned Florida into a solid red state that the Democrats have written off.

He's masterfully handled the last two hurricanes, given Biden the cold-shoulder, and yet Trumpers here are complaining about it (because they know DeSantis makes their guy look incompetent).

Come on Drew. It is disingenuous to say who cares when you don’t like the facts. If you weren’t trying to push DeSantis so hard that you distorted the facts I wouldn’t have needed to put those facts forward.
DeSantis has promise as a Governor but he is not and may never be ready to lead the Nation. His actions in running when he had promised not to, changing the Fl rules so he could cover his bases, the disingenuous moves he has made in positioning himself, and the tone deaf nature of his campaign speak to the fact that he needs seasoning before the National stage. He should be the best Governor he can be and not use that position as a stepping stone.

Govern?

Historically, with the number of hurricanes hitting Florida, there exist now procedures and responses, coded in law, that governs the state and local governments’ response. DeSantis stands before a podium and recites ancient procedures that have been developed over a very long time through hard experience.

I thought about that the other day when DeSantis came out and stood with a military man dressed in his fatigues, looking stern, to protray DeSantis as a military commander battling the hurricane all by himself.

Does anyone really think that DeSantis initates all that, with no experience at all?

And Kevin Williamson, a rabid Trump hater, may actually believe that.

Trump is a sad little man who will never set foot in the White House again.

*****

You proposed a bet about this subject not long ago, my response was after Christmas , so I’d have time to repair whatever damage my wife ‘inflicts’ on our finances.

What kind of money are you talking about?

Also, if Trump steps foot in the White House as a former President.

Do I get the win?

I owe you nothing sir. It’s your party that is the problem. Not Trump. Not DeSantis. You have a party that is filled with Uni Party RINOS and Ron DeSantis’s political allies and big money backers are both. In fact, I’m still waiting for Gov DeSantis to respond to a letter I sent to his office in Tallahassee last April asking for clarification on statements his PAC made referenced by Jim Hoft in a Gateway Pundit article.

We’re finished. If you know anything about liars, then perhaps you will understand why your post triggered me. I make no more explanation than this. I was raised by a compulsive liar. Perhaps you don’t understand the depths of this type of mental abuse and what it does to people. If you did, I doubt very much you’d make such a blanket statement!

We are finished.

Funny, because Trump got over 1M more votes in Florida then desanctomonious. Not to metion that right now Trump is beating him by over 20 points. I have never seen a POTUS candidate lose his home state as bad as desanctomonious is.
