After his second public freeze up in about five weeks, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) fitness for office is under renewed scrutiny. But his quest to stay in leadership—or the quest of those around him to keep him in leadership, as it may be—could actually stem from a potential threat by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D).
Kentucky, until recently, was a state that allowed the governor to fill a vacancy, regardless of party. This led McConnell, now 81, to urge the Republican-led state legislature to pass a new bill in 2021 that requires an appointment of the same party. Now Beshear would be forced to fill a McConnell vacancy with a Republican. But in a recent column for Politico, Jonathan Martin said there’s growing pressure for Beshear to flout the newly passed law in light of McConnell’s health issues and appoint a Democrat anyway.

Of course there was no difference when the GOP was in charge of the Senate - they were fast tracking Dem judges just like Schumer, and of course Schumer would have pushed through a record number of conservative judges like McConnell did and would have stopped Garland in his tracks, and likewise would have gotten Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett on the Supreme Court in the face of overwhelming opposition, just like McConnell. Zero difference in who runs the Senate. Zero.
Buffering his download from Satan.
Why no reports of Mitch freezing anywhere else. It seems he does this only at a presser??
No one with a single functioning brain cell believes for an instant that the current demhole governor would appoint a republican.
Tell that to Senator Feinstein who can't retire because McConnell will block her committee assignments.
I’m with Hillary, and JonPreston, on this one... at this point, what difference does it make?
Per the U.S. Constitution (Article I, section 5, clause 1), it would be up to the Senate to decide.
.
His staff has seen it plenty. Otherwise, they’d be calling 911.
It looks like the strategy is to act like he didn’t hear them, and a staff member (nurse) will ask them to repeat the question to buy time.
Code: speak up and repeat the question
Exactly
in other words deepstate put America between a rock and a hard place. America may have no choice but to prop up the ccp owned puppet with formaldehyde if need be until the dirtbag can be replaced by popular vote.
The Governor has to wait for Obozo to make up his mind.
Its a common meme, here on Free Republic, that we have a uniparty, and that there is no difference as to which party is in control.
You’re mentioning the issue of Judges getting confirmed as being something that Mitch McConnell handled very well during the Trump years. But to those Freepers who believe so strongly in this uniparty idea, none of that makes any difference.
Of course he won’t appoint a Republican if he gets to choose a replacement…please
Beshear doesn’t care. He’ll do as the national party tells him to do and let the courts drag it out (’til they find a Derp State judge that allows his Demonrat appointment to continue through to Nov ‘24).
You keep bringing that up. Those were McConnell judges. They didn’t help any 2020 election law issues well did they. They haven’t made sure freedom is in control. Every time people cry China Mitch, always remember Trump was his bitch.
Could be a reporter doing it.
You dislike Trump? Trump was McConnell’s bitch? Trump’s judges were worthless? Trump himself was useless as president?
Not sure what you are trying to say. Explain further if you care to do so.
Yes but Lil Andy says it’s unconstitutional so he’ll appoint anyone he wants. There will be a legal show down in the commonwealth.
Arizona has a rule that the senator will be replaced with someone from his or her party.
The big money machine that is McConnell, Inc. will transition in name only.
