I suggest that it depends on the goal(s).
If the goals are equality of outcome for the non-elites (even if they are equally poor) and the maximization of dictatorial power for the elites, then Marxism works like a charm.
If it “worked like a charm” the whole world would have turned Marxists decades ago.
