Colorado boy removed from class over ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ patch
The Washington Times ^ | Aug 29 | By Valerie Richardson

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis gave a history lesson to Colorado Springs educators who pulled a 12-year-old boy out of class for having a patch of the yellow Gadsden flag on his backpack.

A counselor at the Vanguard School, a charter school in the Harrison School District 2, told the boy, identified only as “Jaiden,” and his mother during a Monday meeting that the flag was not allowed to be displayed “due to its origins with slavery and the slave trade.”

The remark was shown in a video posted by Connor Boyack, president of Libertas and author of “The Tuttle Twins” books.

The mother challenged the counselor, saying the Revolutionary War-era yellow flag showing a snake and the “Don’t Tread on Me” slogan has “nothing to do with slavery.”

The counselor responded that she was enforcing district policy.

The video went viral Tuesday, prompting outrage from history buffs and a diplomatically worded correction from Mr. Polis, a Democrat.

“Obviously the Gadsden flag is a proud symbol of the American revolution and [an] iconic warning to Britain or any government not to violate the liberties of Americans,” Mr. Polis tweeted

How did a person so fundamentally ignorant of American colonial history come to be hired by that school?

Asking for a friend.

Colorado doesn't - but eleven other states offer Gadsden flag specialty license plates.

The school official responsible for this should be publicly shamed and scorned.

” shamed and scorned.”

How about fired?
His competency is in question.
Can he even read?
He shouldn’t be in an educational environment.

That Teacher should be made to wear a Dunce Hat for not knowing her history, or pretending not to know for partisan reasons.

Not to condemn all educators, I’m sure at least 10% are qualified. The remainder are ignorant parasites

How about fired?

Firing is too good for 'em! Would only allow him to slink away and maybe apply later for a position somewhere else.

I want to see him publicly shamed and scorned until he finds life impossible, and quits of his own accord, vowing to never darken the door of another educational institute in his life!

The schoolkids there should be encouraged by their parents to mock and ridicule him on a daily basis. Would be a good lesson for them! A "teachable moment," as it were! (Gawd, how I hate that expression - I'm using it sarcastically here.)

“until he finds life impossible”

Well ya that could work too.
The kids mocking him is a great Idea...
Somebody should give them all Gadsden flag buttons to wear.

Wow! 10%?? I wouldn’t have thunk it. Seems high but what do I know. I graduated high school back in 1970. I scratch my cranial area in wonder.

I imagine if the Gadsen flag is out of bounds the Culpepper and Navy Jack flags are too. Guess Mr Gadsen, Mr Henry, and Mr Jones would be uninvited to school for a recounting of their fight against the Crown. The Democrats need to catch up on their history. They were the birthplace of the KKK.

I would suggest since the 1990s....anyone coming out of the US public system, or even a university setting....got the bare minimum necessary for US history.

My oldest son was an avid learner and absorbed quite a bit of history. We would have long conversations and I would hand him books from my extensive personal library to read.

In high school, he encountered a new teacher with an obvious bias towards revisionist “woke” history.

She thought she would shove mush in his head.

She thought wrong.

Only three days in and my son put up his hand. She called on him. He gave a four minute refutation, complete with dates, names, and facts, and questioned her about her inaccuracies. She was flummoxed. His friends came over after school and told me all about it.

It became a daily routine. She would teach, he would raise his hand, and the debate was on. He dug even deeper into history just to find facts to crush her in class.

It got so bad that by the end of the first month, whenever she started her lesson, more than half the class would turn around to see if my son had his hand up. They didn’t trust her...they trusted him.

She apparently expressed her frustration in the teacher’s lounge, at the point of tears. Another teacher (a friend of mine) asked who the student was; when he heard my son’s name, he burst out laughing. “The only way you will win is to stick to just the facts. I know his mom and how she raised him...he will come at you from every angle.”

The “woke” got stripped from her lessons.

When my middle child had the same history teacher, the teacher asked if they were related. No woke lessons that year, either. Good thing, since my middle child was on the Debate Team.

My children knew that if they ever went against a teacher who was slinging garbage in the classroom, I would always have their back.

I wish I had a verifiable percentage of the folks male and female who shouldn’t be in an educational environment.
