On August 25, 2020, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse shot three men, killing two, in self-defense during a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Now, the estate of Joseph Rosenbaum is suing Rittenhouse, Kenosha officials, local Sheriff’s departments, the City of Kenosha, the City of West Allis, and several counties for “compensatory and punitive damages” for the “wrongful death” of Rosenbaum.
During the Kenosha incident, Rosenbaum confronted and chased Rittenhouse, eventually throwing a sack of items at him. According to witness testimony, Rosenbaum reached for Rittenhouse’s gun. Rittenhouse then fired four times, killing Rosenbaum. Ultimately, Rosenbaum’s death set off a chain of events that led to another death and injury as Rittenhouse protected himself from a mob of protestors.
During Rittenhouse’s trial, Rosenbaum’s fiancee testified to his extensive mental health issues. It was also uncovered that Rosenbaum spent most of his adult life in prison for sexual contact with five preteen boys.
Rittenhouse was acquitted of all criminal charges in 2021 and has since moved to Texas.
“These lawsuits are making it harder and harder for me to move on with my life,” Rittenhouse told Texas Scorecard. “It is extremely difficult to go outside without fear of being harassed or assaulted because of the lies spread in these lawsuits. No one should have to continue to defend the fact that they acted in self defense.”
My sister had a similar situation. She and her husband rented a house. A peeping tom was caught on several occasions and was even given a restraining order to remain at least 100’ from my sister’s rental home and my sister.
He got arrested for violating the restraining order, was released, and came right back to my sister’s rental property and was standing on the outside water spigot that was coming up through the ground. The handle of the spigot was broken, so it had jagged edges. When my sister caught the peeping tom and screamed, he slipped and fell straight down cutting into his foot, ankle, and leg up for about 17”! He couldn’t run away and was caught, arrested, and needed several stitches to sew him up.
He sued the landlord/owner and tried to sue my sister and brother-in-law for having a dangerous situation on the property. Ultimately my sister and BIL were removed from the suit, but he won and had all of his medical bills paid by the property owner’s insurance and some extra, if I remember correctly.
Might be something about to that old barbarian thing about wiping out the family so they do not come after you later?
j/k, but sometimes.
Answer: what happens when you marry gold digger to grave digger
BTTT
If this country’s system were better they would say “while in the commission of a crime or in the attempt” means no money.
He died doing what he loved. Chasing minors.
I agree. If you are breaking the law, then you (and any family members) should automatically forgo all rights to any kind of monetary windfall - PERIOD!
If you get shot/killed while robbing a store, your family has no right to expect the store to voluntarily allow that robbery to occur and you, nor your family, should be allowed a windfall due to your illegal activities!
