I wish the best for Steve, but why did this need a public announcement? Can such blood cancers render a person to being disabled and not able to work? Does it work quickly?
Not all cancers produce rapid deterioration.

If he has to miss a vote or two, it would be better to have the reason (cancer treatment) confirmed before hand, instead of bringing it up as an excuse after the accusation during a political campaign.
