If wind energy was a viable option it would not need government subsidies. The free market would make it sustainable.

Agree 100%. Same with solar, which I have plenty of, use very effectively for making most of my own power, and can't stand the govt subsidies (I hate the govt picking winners and losers, and the tax credits just artificially inflated my prices anyway). Solar and wind on the grid is dumb anyway -- the grid should be dependable power. I have many reasons to hate the wind turbine scam.

However, at the same time I could understand someone with a self-reliant mindset setting up a few pico (small) wind turbines for himself if he lived in an area that was practical. The same with a pico hydro turbine if someone had a creek running on his property. There's something about setting it up yourself (perhaps picking a licensed electrician to at least go behind you), picking out exactly what equipment you need, and configuring it yourself for your specific energy consumption habits that makes it work much much more efficiently than when the bureaucrats figure it out "for us" in a one-size-fits-nobody plan. That is why so-called "green" energy installed in a decentralized manner seems to work well for those of us who distrust government. With us it's about reducing our dependency on government, not increasing our dependency.

Can you imagine a 20x10 or smaller compartmentalized nuclear power plant that could be moved to a really remote area and provide power for 20 or more years? Totally self contained power source to run a small village or a large family compound! All you would need was a source of water and a method of creating sustainable food.
They could do it now but the GOV will not allow it.
