The ABC has confirmed multiple military personnel have been rescued from an aircraft crash site on the Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin.
There are no reports of fatalities.
CareFlight and NT Police have confirmed they are both responding to the incident on the remote Melville Island, 60km off the coast from Darwin.
The Northern Territory government's fire incident map shows emergency services were notified about the aircraft crash at 9.43am this morning.
A Defence spokesperson said the "aircraft incident" occurred during Exercise Predator’s Run 2023.
"Initial reports suggest the incident involves United States defence personnel and that Australian Defence Force members were not involved," they said.
"At this critical early stage, our focus is on the incident response and ensuring the safety of those involved.
"More information will be provided when appropriate."
More than 2,500 troops from the US, Australia, Philippines, Timor-Leste and Indonesia are currently taking part in the exercise on the Tiwi Islands.
Other reports say the crash involves a V-22 Osprey with approximately 20 US Marines aboard. No fatalities have currently been reported, and at least some people have been rescued, but I haven’t seen any clear reports as to whether there are any casualties, or if everybody is safe and well.
Further reports (behind paywalls) say a number of US personnel are missing. Four people, including one critically injured are currently either en route to hospital or have arrived at hospital in Darwin.
