National Cinema Day Returns This Weekend! Go to the Movies For Only $4 a Ticket on Sunday

Movie fans who've missed out on the Barbenheimer phenomenon so far can see both films for only $4 a pop this weekend. National Cinema Day is back. The one-day event offers moviegoers the opportunity to see any title they want, in any format, and at any showtime, for only $4! The special event happens on Sunday, August 27, and it's an extraordinary offer for cinephiles.

Last year's first annual National Cinema Day (Saturday, September 3) brought in $24 million, and it went down as having the largest attendance for any day in 2022. This year, 3,000 theaters will participate with over 30,000 screens in play across the country and in Canada. President of The Cinema Foundation, Jackie Brenneman, said (via Deadline):

Fandango is a sponsor of National Cinema Day. Following last year's Labor Day event, which coincidentally offered tickets for only $3, Fandango conducted a survey to find out what would draw in customers should the discounted-ticket promotion return in the future. And the most appealing things about National Cinema Day were, obviously, ticket pricing, seeing a particular movie title and spending time with loved ones.

No Barbi for me but I already reserved a seat to see "Oppenheimer" tomorrow. And depending on how I feel after that movie, I might go see the latest "Mission Impossible." Ironically, the last movie I saw in a theater was the previous "Mission Impossible" when I used that cheap monthly movie pass (was it $10 or $14?). I rushed to see as many movies as I could with that pass because I knew that deal too good to be true would be ending soon.... and I was right.

Why? Most people have theater quality TVs. I’ll wait for the best of Hollywood’s crap to be available on wifi

Lack of social manners in the general public makes going to a theater a nightmare. Nothing like watching 100 tiny little phone screens throughout the movie and people shouting into their speakerphones.

“Most people have theater quality TVs.”

And better drinks, snacks, audio equipment, etc. Why pay $50 to see a movie in a social setting with barn animals when a nice home environment buys a movie for $20 instead?

Last movie - Casino Royale - 2006. Had to plug one ear in an attempt to block the noise coming from the party at the other end of the row. Never again.

Especially Oppenheimer. If a movie has a 3 hour runtime, I'm gonna watch it with a pause button.

I stopped supporting hollywood, at least as far as going to the movies, decades ago. I would not go to a movie theater if it was free.

Somehow I don’t think the rowdy crowd will be lining up to see “Oppenheimer.”

Any money going to big entertainment is pretty much a contribution to the DNC. As such I avoid big entertainment to the best of my ability. I’m getting pretty good at it and given the content they spew out they’re making it easy.

Nope. The last movie I saw in a theater was Independence Day, in 1996 just after it was released. Not planning to go to a movie theater again for anything.

No, just grandma and grandpa who think facetiming on speakerphone in the middle of a movie is acceptable social behavior. Literally, I have seen that happen.

Go see Angel Studios’ independently produced Sound of Freedom, which will help poke the stick deeper in Hollywood’s leftist eye, and help this important movie break the $180 million domestic mark!
