A rash of legal disputes in San Francisco is highlighting the city's ongoing conflict over how to tackle homelessness.
Driving the news: Hundreds of people faced off in dueling protests outside the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday as the city fights a temporary court order preventing it from clearing homeless encampments.
The Coalition on Homelessness (COH) plans to request that a district court appoint a special master to ensure the city's compliance with the order at a hearing Thursday, the San Francisco Standard reports. Catch up quick: The nonprofit filed a lawsuit last fall alleging San Francisco violates the rights of homeless people by seizing and destroying their property, threatening their physical and mental health and "punishing residents who have nowhere to go."
A federal judge in December issued an order blocking the city from conducting encampment sweeps against people who are "involuntarily homeless," citing San Francisco's shortage of beds for unhoused individuals. In January, the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights San Francisco (LCCRSF) filed a motion alleging San Francisco violated that order by conducting sweeps targeting unhoused people, including during the bomb cyclone that month. The city asked the appeals court Wednesday to lift the order blocking encampment sweeps.

Bulldozers and flamethrowers.
Even Democrat/Communists understand that the eventual solution to address this very real threat to civil society and American quality of life requires the use of force — physical force. They’re not going to leave on their own volition, that’s for damn sure!
Why are there no homeless encampments outside the Pelosi estate? Flyers should be handed out to the city’s homeless with directions to the Pelosi estate.
You nailed it.
Sounds like a racist title to me.
I watch old movies, and see the beat cop tap the park bench sleeping bum on the soles of his feet with a nightstick and tell him to move along. No liberal judge should allow homeless encampments in the city. It’s never been done. Why now?
All the lawyers defending the encampments should be required to have ten homeless people living in their homes.
CLARIFY & IN TOTAL DETAIL:
HOW ARE THEY ABLE TO SEPARATE THE “INVOLUNTARILY HOMELESS” FROM THE REST????
For sure—instead of virtue signalling and looking for a fast taxpayer buck, they need to open their wallets and those gates guarding their communities to the ‘less fortunate.’
“Why are there no homeless encampments outside the Pelosi estate? Flyers should be handed out to the city’s homeless with directions to the Pelosi estate.”
exactly.
In Minneapolis, there are some wealthy neighborhoods - Kenwood, Linden Hills, Lake of the Isles, etc.
They are all inhabited by overeducated guilt-ridden white liberals.
None of the homeless encampments are even remotely close to those neighborhoods. No panhandlers, no used needles laying around, no defecating in the street, etc.
I occasionally attend an Episcopal church in one of those neighborhoods. Don’t flame me. it’s my wife’s church. The people in the church are all the above described white liberals.
I once suggested after church at a coffee hour that maybe we need to start bringing some homeless to start camping in the nice park across from the church or on the paths around Lake of the Isles.
There was silence and by their facial expressions, the idea wasn’t well received.
There is a simple solution.
There are giant skyscrapers with tons of empty space in downtown San Francisco. Turn the space over to the homeless. Let them use the elevator shafts to deposit their human waste, needles and trash.
“A federal judge in December issued an order blocking the city from conducting encampment sweeps against people who are “involuntarily homeless,” citing San Francisco’s shortage of beds for unhoused individuals”
Does this “judge” have a name? They should make the judge famous. Everyone in the judges social circles should know this is the person that delights in this squalor.
Meanwhile, the freeloading, border-jumping foreign invaders are partying in America’s finest hotels at the U.S. Taxpayers expense.
I think they should really show them.
And establish a homeless encampment on and around the 9th Circus building...
But it’s ok that the homeless’s bodily wastes are polluting the waters of San Francisco? Where is the EPA? There are run off limits!
I can just imagine the look on their smug faces when you called them on their virtue signalling.
I once questioned a so-called 'homeless advocate' who was pushing for our city to fund a homeless shelter on the taxpayer dime. When the floor was open for public comment in opposition, I ask her "how many homeless people stayed at your house last night?"
Her angry response was "That's irrelevant" as it was obvious the answer was none. I replied "no that's exactly the point." If looks could kill I wouldn't be here as she was livid.
