Sam Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty Tuesday to an amended indictment alleging fraud and money laundering conspiracy charges, appearing in court for the first time since his bail was revoked and he was sent to a Brooklyn jail to await trial.
Lawyers for the former crypto billionaire, who is vegan, said the detention center is not accommodating his diet and failing to regularly dispense his prescription Adderall.
“He’s literally now subsisting on bread and water, which are the only things he’s served that he can eat, and sometimes peanut butter,” his attorney, Mark Cohen, told the court.
Magistrate Judge Netburn said she would contact the Bureau of Prisons about the accommodations.
Sam Bankman-Fried arrives at the federal courthouse in Manhattan on Friday.
Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, has spent the past 11 days in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a notoriously overcrowded facility that’s been regularly accused of keeping inmates in inhumane conditions. It’s a far cry from his house arrest, which he spent in the relative luxury of his parents’ Palo Alto home in California.

You took the idea right out of my head.
Sob, I don’t know if I can take this sorrow! Poor guy.
He should be glad he’s not treated like a J6 political prisoner.
Poor kid.(sarcasm)
Ok
Most bread is made with eggs. Can vegans eat eggs?
So he chooses to starve to death, who cares...
Good point. Matza, maybe then?
He is just too holy for meat. What a pure soul.
And will he eat any better when he gets out?
Too bad, so sad, bye bye.
Could be worse.
NOPE.
True vegans can’t eat honey or even off of bone china.

His choice was to reject certain foods. His choice was to swindle people out of money with his scheme. Let him rot.
The BEST OPTION is to force some meat into the guy. At that point, we’ll get some HONESTY and REMORSE.
I thought bread and water was what criminals behind bars were supposed to live on.....what am I missing?
“the only things he’s served that he can eat”
Doubtful. He may have objections to eating other things, but I’d bet that he could and would eat them if he gets hungry enough.
I hope someone puts the boots to him 3 times a day when they bring his bread and water.
Moral of the story: If you are given relatively liberal bail conditions, obey those conditions. It really isn’t that tough.
They may accommodate the diet request. But as regards the Adderall, no way. That stuff is worth it’s weight in gold as a prison currency.
