FWIW, the youngsters I know are delving into instrumental hard progressive rock.

Yep, and so do I. I grew up on prog rock, but have attempting to inject some newer music to what I listen. I simply followed the evolution of prog rock up to today. There are all kinds of off shoots. I’ve not much of a metal guy, but I do enjoy very complex instrumental music with roots in classical, jazz and blues. There are some tremendously talented young musicians today, but you’re not going to hear them on the Spotify Top 50 Pop List.

Yep, there’s tons of talent out there. The problem is there are no great songs. The problem of our era, musically speaking, is that talent isn’t translating into songs for some reason.
