Major Hurricane Hilary is moving along the Eastern Pacific coastline toward the SW US. Tropical storm conditions are possible by late Sunday in portions of southern California where a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect.
Heavy rainfall in association with Hilary is expected to impact the Southwestern United States through next Wednesday, peaking on Sunday and Monday.
Meanwhile, the Atlantic tropical season is heating up.

“the flash flooding damage will be very extensive south of Joshua Tree NP.”
I agree. The last I saw, the Santa Rosa Mountains are due to receive around 12 inches of rain. IMHO the Coachella Valley is going to get hit hard.
Commence the hype. Actually we need the rain in Texas.
we need the rain in southern Arizona too
Oh no, it’s global warming. There have never been hurricanes in the Pacific and Atlantic at the same time. We’re all gonna die. We need to pray so the little retard saint Greta will save us.

In the North Atlantic, central North Pacific, and eastern North Pacific, the term hurricane is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a typhoon. Meanwhile, in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, the generic term tropical cyclone is used.
Is LA anticipating any special preps for Hilary?
Can Newsom declare Martial law due to excessive rain?
I hope one of those three hurricane tracks that make it to North Idaho happen. We desperately need the rain to knock down forest and brush fires. A big one erupted today over at Medical Lake, Washington. Our forecast does show some modest rain starting Sunday or Monday and lasting three or four days. Fingers crossed.
