China has had such satellite killers for over a decade.

I'll bet we have, too. Just because they are announcing it now doesn't mean they're just getting started at it.

How about concentrating on protecting our own satellites? We depend on them far too much.

They can’t blow up to many satellites. The debris fields would create a catastrophic chain of events. Other satellites get destroyed creating more debris... pretty soon they all get destroyed and never again can man put another satellite into orbit, at least until all the space junk burns up.

Saw this nugget in the article though... “electromagnetic warfare” maybe they can EMP them with a directed EMP.

I was wondering if anyone would say this. There is already far to much debris circling the Earth.

I cannot even count the articles and books I have read which talk about this.

So, what happens when a satellite is disables and cannot perform station keeping? (Hint: Debris)
