A special agent with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is dead after being accidentally shot by another IRS agent during a training exercise Thursday at a federal gun range in Phoenix, officials confirmed.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirms that an incident occurred Thursday at their gun range, which multiple federal agencies were utilizing at the time through an interagency agreement. The spokesperson said no Federal Bureau of Prisons employees were injured in the incident.

Charlotte M. Dennis with the Phoenix Field Office of the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) division replied to Arizona’s Family on Thursday afternoon, confirming it was aware of an “incident” involving one of its special agents. She said the agent was taken to HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center, where the agent died. “Our concern today is for the agent and their family,” she said in the written statement.

The Enrolled Agent ID card used to have “Special Agent US Treasury” on it. I’ve been retired many years, so been away from it. That was 30 years ago. Not sure about it now.

I was heavily involved when the organized crime task force worked with the IRS to audit Roma Foods and all their pizza shop customers on the east coast in the early 1980’s. That was a major CID project.

My CID friends have long since passed away and there is a new crew in there now that I’m unfamiliar with.

I’m also a CPA, and a few other certifications, having been the liason between the CPA’s and the IRS for the state society. Also taught tax update workshops for the University wth the IRS for many years. Many of my students at the University became agents so I stayed in touch for years. They are retired now too.

Happy to be away from it. The new agents have been recently hired and all chaos is about to begin. The older experienced agents have retired and the layer of agents to train the new hires are gone. The frustration in current agents is high, with most counting the days to retirement.

I grew up with guns everywhere. I remember when all the Five & Dime stores had trash cans of WWII surplus rifles beside the checkout register for $3 to $7 depending upon condition. No age requirements or ID’s required to purchase. Back then, loaded guns sitting around in the house were the norm. You learned to respect them and good gun safety.

Today’s younger generation doesn’t have the benefit of gun common sense. It’s no wonder accidents happen.

Yes, the Internal Revenue Service did buy nearly $700K in ammunition in early 2022

VERIFY viewer Ian asked if the IRS bought $700,000 in ammunition earlier this year. It’s true. It’s for armed agents who can carry weapons and ammunition.

The Wall Street Journal reported in 2016 that the IRS had 2,316 special agents (the number has likely grown) and spent an estimated $5,000 on each agent for weapons and ammunition.

In 2019, Forbes reported that the IRS had hoards of ammunition and guns. By the end of 2017, the IRS already had around 4,487 guns and 5,062,006 rounds of ammunition.

It was reported that the guns in IRS possession weren’t for civilians. According to reports, many of the guns are machine guns. As it stands, only the Criminal Investigation Division in the IRS actually gets to carry.

Since 2006, the IRS has purchased $35.2 million worth of guns, ammunition, and other tactical gear for its special agents. The agency ramped up its weapon purchases in 2020 and 2021, spending $10 million since the beginning of the COVID lockdowns.

OpenTheBooks.com’s report revealed a breakdown of the agency’s recent purchases, which showed that since 2020 the IRS spent $2.3 million on duty ammunition, $1.2 million on ballistic shields, $474,000 on Smith & Wesson rifles, $467,000 on tactical lighting, $463,000 on Baretta shotguns, $354,000 on tactical gear bags, $267,000 on ballistic helmets, and $243,000 on body armor vests.

He was shot by another IRA agent.
I was taking a class in NV and we had a woman prison guard show up.
After 1 hr, they asked her to leave before she shot someone.

Based on your attitude I’d bet you have something to hide from the IRS. A lot of my cases back then were referrals from bar patrons ratting out their blowhard drunk friends, bragging about how they haven’t filed tax returns in years. Are you one of those?

Lemme get this straight.

So drunks from bars call you up at the IRS reporting others drunks at the bar are not paying the government enough? And that's enough for the stooges at the IRS to conduct investigations on the drunks? So any druggy or drunk can call you people up and rat out other druggies and drunks and that's enough for the IRS to kick off audit investigations?

What did you do today honey? Oh, I ran down hot tips from drunks from the local bar...Bewhahahahahah!

Your drinking buddies would file a claim for reward with the CID, (they’re ratting you out hoping to get rich). The Special Agents would make an initial assessment, but because they didn’t want to do any actual work, they would send the referral to Collection. Sometimes there was nothing there, but more often than not I’d find there was unreported income and unfiled returns. Bwahahaha!

Believe it or not, the IRS actually serves a legitimate purpose. Tax evasion is very common, look at Hunter Biden and his crime family, Al Sharpton, Spike Lee, and countless others. Unfortunately, IRS abuse is also real. We can’t let them run roughshod over America.

Boy, the IRS are going after the drunks at the local bar...Big money there I betcha. You should investigate the bartenders and servers too. They might be withholding some change from the tip jar. Gak~

The crooks on Wall Street and in Congress are all winking and nodding.☺

Hey Auntie Dim, we all know these these lying azzholes who’ve hijacked government never had any intention of securing the border. And with upwards of 40 million illegal aliens in country, why are we all paying billions in taxes to agencies like the ICE, Border Patrol et al?

Lol, the problem with this country is NOT that the government doesn’t have enough money.

Well, scofflaw Joe Friday, tips have long been a BIG source of tax evasion, and still are, despite stiffer IRS rules designed to curb the practices. That’s the unfortunate part of many laws and regulations that complicates the lives of normal people. The selfish and illegal actions of the few, like you, bleed over into everyone’s lives, making them harder. It’s been said: “...steal $5,000 and you go to prison. Steal $5,000,000 and you get elected to Congress.”

Hey Auntie Dim, why did you evade the question?

Lets try once more.

We all know these these lying azzholes who’ve hijacked government never had any intention of securing the border. And with upwards of 40 million illegal aliens in country, why are we all paying billions in taxes to agencies like the ICE, Border Patrol et al?

??

You actually asked a question? It looked rhetorical to me.

It’s obvious you’re not paying enough taxes. Those azzholes need YOUR tax dollars to tide them over until those 40 million new laborers get on their feet and actually start PAYING taxes instead of consuming them. That should be any day now.

It was obvious to me over 50 years ago when I started working for the IRS, that our government in general, and the IRS specifically, had no interest in pursuing illegals for tax revenue. They bent over backwards to give them a pass. It must be more important to have our lawns mowed and our fruit picked than to have everyone be taxed fairly.

No kidding. And you actually admit to working for this corrupt government?

You not only worked for a very corrupt government agency and now you admit the IRS is more interested in going after drunks at the local bar and their tip jar, than securing our borders, as millions from God knows where flood into the country, which has clearly created a national security time bomb!

I would never admit to colluding with and being on the payroll of these agencies who are clearly screwing the American people.

With wide open borders and upwards of 40 million illegal aliens in country, why in hell are we all paying billions in taxes to agencies like the ICE, Border Patrol et al?

???

Try answering the question this time instead of evading it.

Get over yourself.

Don’t you have something better to do, like pub bragging about how much you cheat on your taxes?

Yes, the IRS is corrupt. The FBI is Corrupt. The DOJ is corrupt. Congress is corrupt. Big Pharma is corrupt. The media is corrupt. The Whitehouse is corrupt. Whoever you worked for is corrupt. What are YOU going to do about all that? It’s your fault for not paying your fair share of taxes.

Do I have to add a sarc tag?
