A special agent with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is dead after being accidentally shot by another IRS agent during a training exercise Thursday at a federal gun range in Phoenix, officials confirmed.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirms that an incident occurred Thursday at their gun range, which multiple federal agencies were utilizing at the time through an interagency agreement. The spokesperson said no Federal Bureau of Prisons employees were injured in the incident.

Charlotte M. Dennis with the Phoenix Field Office of the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) division replied to Arizona’s Family on Thursday afternoon, confirming it was aware of an “incident” involving one of its special agents. She said the agent was taken to HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center, where the agent died. “Our concern today is for the agent and their family,” she said in the written statement.

My favorite is the one from an Obama rally in Illinois. It was hit by a lightning storm and some doofus used a metal folding chair to protect himself from the rain.

I’m thinking it...but not saying it.

I will. It's nice to hear good news every once in a while. Every dead government agent is good news. I don't care what agency it works for.

What a bunch of callous, heartless pricks you all are.

LOl. Every level of the government of this banana republic have earned it. I don't have a violin small enough to play for your comment.

Caption your photo— something actually witnessed an agent asking a grandma-in-law... Quote:

“Do you have any jars of coins or bottles of cash buried in your yard?”... Then said they wouldn’t have to ask these kinds of questions if they HAD ENOUGH AGENTS!!!

This was 30 years ago— and nothing has changed. Except the idiotic Sen. Harry Reid publicly said that paying one’s Federal Taxes is... ‘voluntary’. People laughed in his face— if you don’t volunteer you’ll get audited, fined and sentenced to jail. voluntary my ....s

There is so much ignorance, misinformation and paranoia on this thread. The IRS is not going to have 87,000 ARMED agents, no matter how big their budget is. Criminal Investigators (Special Agents) are the only ones allowed to carry guns on duty, and there will only be about 4,000 of them—even with the bloated Biden budget. The bulk of the 87,000 new hires will be Tax Auditors and Revenue Agents performing civil audits, and Revenue Officers, performing civil compliance enforcement (collections).

Having said that, I was a Revenue Officer for almost 15 years. I was not allowed to carry a gun, despite regularly receiving death threats for making delinquent taxpayers pay their legally owed taxes. We were instructed to have the armed Special Agents provide us with an armed escort if we felt there was a credible threat from a taxpayer.

On one such occasion I had to deal with a real nut case who had made statements to me about “a shooting revolution” and playing with a live .357 Magnum round on a table top. I took a young Special Agent with me who stood behind me while I explained the facts of life to the delinquent taxpayer. I looked back to see the Special Agent with his trembling hand hovering an inch over his gun. I stepped into the trailer where the taxpayer was seated as I felt safer facing a calm “nut case” than having an obviously nervous rookie behind me.

In all the years I had that job I had encountered open display of weapons, stood 10 feet away from armed mobsters, sat in darkened warehouses interrogating known murderers all while being armed only with a pen. In none of those cases was I as nervous or worried about my safety than when I was escorted by that Special Agent.

They are all called “Special Agents” of the US Treasury. Even Enrolled Agents get that title.

That's not true. I was an Enrolled Agent before I was a CPA, I never had the title "Special Agent".

Of course the IRS is not going to turn those 87,000 "new hires" into armed agents. Most everyone on this thread knows that. The issue being highlighted isn't about paying ones taxes honestly, accurately and on time, it's a commentary about armed federal agents doing stupid things with firearms.

87,000 more IRS employees -whether they carry a pistol or a pencil- represent a further expansion of our leviathan administrative state. It is a modern and blatant example of what Thomas Jefferson warned us about in the Declaration of Independence: “He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our People, and eat out their substance.”

The death of this agent is no doubt a personal tragedy for their family. However, do you not think (as I believe many (most), of the FReepers on this thread believe), that 87,000 new federal IRS agents does in fact represent yet another "a swarm of officers" being sent to further eat out the substance?"

But back to the topic at hand...the bottom line is that most FReepers think there are way too many federal agents now carrying guns for whatever reason.

Funny. Keep that number up to date.

As for the IRS agent pals, ready to take a bullet for each other, feeling so close on those long stakeouts at night in the car together watching for a taxpayer to arrive home.....

Good one.

I was going to post the recorded IRS dialogue was:
“So I figure Alec Baldwin must have taken his weapon and held it like this and then he pointed it just like this and then.....Oops. Sorry about that.”

Keep your trigger finger outside the trigger guard. Do not put your finger on the trigger unless you are prepared to fire. It is really that simple. A person died today due to stupidity of rules they did not know. I am a shooter since a boy of 13 with my own weapon allowed in my bedroom since that age. My grandfather taught me the rules. I obeyed them.

The concept of using my weapon in an illegal act never even crossed my mind. It was a weapon that I hunted with. Even more oddly the concept of using that weapon in defense did not cross my mind either. I lived in a middle class neighborhood in South Louisiana. We all were armed and as such did not need to use them.

The nut case i referenced was not a taxpayer until I got through with him. My mistake was turning my back on the Special Agent. I left the IRS over 30 years ago because they were irredeemingly corrupt. I was black balled for refusing to carry out illegal orders. IRS management universally believes they are not subject to any laws or restraint. Reporting their abuses to officials only got me in more trouble. Altering documents subject to court subpoena, favoritism to management cronies owing back taxes, and much more. Like many here I also fear the IRS can’t be trusted. Make less than $400,000 have nothing to fear from the 87,000 new hires. A deliberate lie. I know better than most who/what we’re dealing with.

Ya, I really feel sorry for the IRS. I like how they put out like all of our EARNED money is owed to them. And how they concoct these tax laws/regulations by simply pulling them out of effing thin air.

Wow...I hope you sized all his assets and destroyed him! Make an example out of that greedy tax slave.

A special agent... Is there a not-so-special agent? Perhaps just a mediocre agent?

Sounds like this one was a "Very Special Agent."

True. Similar life NW Missouri. A friend and I used to take our guns and hunting gear to high school. Cut 6th and 7th hour to hunt deer and quail. Never showed the guns to friends and only took them out at the hunt sight. I was hunting small game in 1964. Deer at 15 and elk in the idaho area at 25. Good training as a youngster is a must. Younger the better. Guns have never killed anything. The operator is the problem. IMO. Regards
