They are blaming climate change. The local govt refused to release water to fight the fires.

It’s in the middle of the freaking Pacific and they didn’t have water to fight fire. Lahaina is right there by the beach.

I would blame the environmentalists who would not let them control the brush and grass under the power lines. Don’t know the exact reason the grass had not been cut or harvested though. Boils down to management of a fire hazard. Same problem California has with the forest fires.

This is so sad I cannot even find the words to describe it.

Technically, it was the state government, not the local, according to this report:

Hawaiian official M. Kaleo Manuel refused to release water in Maui as the fire raged

Manuel is deputy director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources

Here he is explaining that water should be revered, not used:

Turned off the water.

Sent kids home to be alone.

LE blocked the road out and turned residents back toward the fire.

Meeting to develop a smart town but couldn’t because of the historical buildings but now those building are destroyed.

The governor announcing the state will buy up the land.

Boats burning far from shore.

The elites’ mansions were spared.

Gibbs’ Rule #39 - There are no coincidences.

Adding - the town’s emergency fund had been $3 million for forever until this year when the smirky mayor bumped it to $40 million.

etc.
