Never seen an Aldi, Winn-Dixie or Harvey’s. In fact, never even heard of Harvey’s. Pretty much all the names in the various comments are alien to me.

I wish we had a Wegman’s in the South. Publix doesn’t hold a candle.

I wish we had a Wegman's in York, PA. The closest are in Hunt Valley, MD and Lancaster, PA.

I sometimes shop at Aldis to stock up on canned goods and staples like flour, sugar and other baking staples, and salt, spices, coffee, etc. You can’t beat the prices and the quality is very good. While I’m there I may purchase meat, cheese and snacks, eggs, and some frozen foods. I usually don’t bother with fresh produce, as it is usually sold in bulk packaging, and I as a single person won’t use it fast enough.

“Aldi owns Trader Joe’s.”

Not exactly. “Aldi Nord” (north) owns Trader Joe’s while “Aldi Sud” (south) owns Aldi-branded stores in the US.

It’s weird situation but they’re two different companies. The owning family had a feud about the ethics of selling cigarettes and broke the business into two (geographically in Germany). But they appear to cooperate to some extent by not competing directly with each other not only in Germany but also in foreign markets in Europe and the U.S., and they sell some of the same products. You’ll see Trader Joe’s-branded foods in both Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud stores in Europe

I have an Aldi’s locally and another essentially across town, but the nearest TJ’s is about a 10-15 minute drive. I wish it were closer.

I really like their coffee, the blintzes, and a couple of other items. My wife loved the pesto tortellini bowl. But then, she would probably have eaten her shoes if they had pesto sauce.

The only thign that’s left of A&P (the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company) is Eight O’Clock Coffee. That was tehri store brand.

I often buy Eight O’Clock becaue my nearest grocery store carries it and it’s about the only thing I can get that’s whole bean.

Still 500 stores but nearly 25% are in Alabama. So 400 stores spread out amongst 17 other states. Wisconsin has a lot of stores, I didn’t realize they were that far north. Only a two stores in TX. and one in NY. Even California had numerous stores back in the 1920’s and 30’s, long gone now.
