Republicans are not popular. Abortion will be on the ballot nationwide 2024.

Abortion has been legal for 50 years. Those 70 yrs. old and younger have always had access to abortion. Banning abortion is not popular. If the Republican party doesn’t state where they stand on this issue, they will never win locally or nationwide. And dems/media will continue to hammer republicans on this issue because they are silent.

DeSantis passed one of the most strict abortion laws nationwide, this alone will defeat him. They will claim that he will make that happen nationwide. As a woman I know that many have no clue they are pregnant until 6 wks (or longer). Most want 12-15 wks. If republicans said this, abortion would no longer be an issue.

Arguing over other nonsense is a waste of time and noise. If you want to win, open up minds and focus on what counts.

Note: Ohioan’s voted against raising the percentage needed to change the Constitution last week. Why? Because they don’t want abortion banned, that was the dem sales pitch to vote no. Were they stupid to vote that way? YES. But the republican message was ‘no abortions’. They fell right into the trap. Idiotic. And they lost 57% - 43%..3 mil voted

So many here say ‘Winning is the most important thing’, if the republican party doesn’t change their messaging on abortion….nothing else matters. Abortion is why we lost 2022, not Trump. We didn’t lose 2020. Abortion was still legal. We will lose nationwide 2024.

The rest of us that despise the GOPe don’t care if they lose. We want the party dissolved or cleaned out. Trump is the GOPe main and only target (for 7 yrs). DeSantis is not a target (very suspect).

“Banning abortion is not popular.”

Doing the right thing often isn’t.

“And dems/media will continue to hammer republicans on this issue because they are silent.”

They’ll hammer us whether we’re silent or not. And even if we said the “right” thing on some topic, the dems/media would just lie and make it seem like we said the “wrong” thing anyway. So it’s no use worrying what they will do.

“Most want 12-15 wks. If republicans said this, abortion would no longer be an issue.”

Dead wrong. It might no longer be an issue with some moderates and independents. But now it becomes a divisive issue within the Republican party again, and we have to fight that battle all over again. Your theoretical candidate that comes out and supports 1st trimester abortions (to be allowed nationwide I am assuming you are talking about), will now lose perhaps 40% of the support in the Republican party and can no longer win a primary. So it’s irrelevant if they could win a national election, because they’ll never get the chance.
