“out-of-state dark money groups”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is probably what swung it. The Dems flooded the state with outside money and organization. The GOP had better be ready for this. The Dems are going to mobilize national level resources to win state level contests over abortion law.
Many in America simply deny reality. It all seems to begin with the most fundamental elements of life; unborn babies to the gender of adults. We are asked to deny our senses every day, particularly what we can clearly see. We are asked to deny logic every day. We are asked to deny wisdom that has served man well for millennia.
I always thought the plan was to return Abortion to the states. We have done that.
Yep, and since many/most? states allow the initiative and the referendum you are going to see some generally conservative states pass pro-abortion laws. But some will not. But after a half-century it has been allowed to be a political issue rather than a command from nine unelected Justices.
It went to the states to decide.
Now we are in the phase of states reacting to a zero abortion idea, saying We don’t want THAT.
The next phase will be those states also swinging back the other way and wanting to not be wholesale killing babies, ala CA and NY.
Stopped reading right here:
“Why are some Republicans so dissatisfied with democracy?”
Oh really!?! So for years we have pushed for an end to Roe to leave it up to the States and we are somehow, “against democracy.”
I am fine with that. What I was NOT fine with was a liberal supreme court MAKING UP a constitutional right to abortion that could only be overturned by passing a constitutional amendment.
We will continue to fight this battle from state to state and eventually win the hearts and minds of the American people.
But forced jabs, forced closures, forced masks, doctors and nurses fired for giving medicine not on the approved list are ok.
Covid taught me all I needed to know about some Americans twisted logic.
If we can’t “win the hearts and minds”, God will surely break them.
for me, I love our form of government and am willing to put up with laws I do not agree with if they are passed legally.
If liberals can get an actual constitutional amendment passed protecting the right to an abortion. I can personally live with that. But what I can not abide was the liberal supreme court of the times ruling in Roe V Wade which bypassed the process of amending the constitution and put us in the position of having to pass an constitutional amendment to overturn what the liberal judges simply made up.
Certainly can legislate punishment for MURDER, which is what abortion is.
Ah, never mind. Doesn't matter. This country is doomed to become a living hell. Go ahead, abort all your kids if you want.
It doesn’t matter what you thought it was about. The voters clearly knew what they thought it was about. That’s the bottom line.
Ironically, states’ rights are crushing the GOPs abortion agenda
Who is the idiot that wrote this?   The whole idea was to send the issue back to the States as it should have been all along.   There was no agenda beyond that one thing.
We’re a sick and amoral nation. It’s actually kind of amazing that SCOTUS mustered the nerve to repeal the blatantly unconstitutional but highly contentious Roe in this environment.
Start the constitution amendment banning dark money. 2/3 of the congress and then on to the states. You have your work cut out for you.
For many pro life people, overturning Roe was just a first step. There has been an agenda to overturn Roe, then enact restrictions on abortion at the state level.
True, some people had a view of abortion strictly based on constitutional issues, that it should be an issue for states, without regard for what laws states would pass. But beyond that, many wanted states to restrict abortion.
Many Conservatives have significantly exaggerated anti-abortion support for decades.
First, the good news...
Roe v. Wade was ALWAYS unconstitutional. I never dreamed it could be overturned by a USA Supreme Court. Legally, it was an amazing and shocking decision. It was an incredible victory for states rights (aka, federalism).
Unfortunately, very few states have BOTH a legislature and a governor that will ban abortion.
Also unfortunate, most anti-abortion voters do not realize that 55% of abortions are now by oral medication - not by surgery.
The medication percentage will continue to increase in coming years.
Politically - it is going to be a much tougher job to convince voters that abortion by medication is the same thing as abortion by surgery.
Regardless, shutting down ruling from the bench Roe and moving the decisions to the states was the Constitutional thing to do.
