A sign of the decline of American manhood.
Traditionally aviators were expected to have the cajones to ride the plane into the ground if necessary to avoid fatalities on the ground

Had one pilot do just that near Smyrna TN years ago. He dove the jet into a wooded area and died rather than hit a huge office and retail area.

Luckily: “The aircraft struck unoccupied vehicles in the apartment complex’s parking lot. No one at the apartment complex nor the air show was injured. The FAA is investigating the crash.”

It crashed into a home minutes after the husband had left for work, killing his wife, all his children, and his mother in law.

A sign of the decline of American manhoo>>d. Traditionally aviators were expected to have the cajones to ride the plane into the ground if necessary to avoid fatalities on the ground. An uncle of mine, in the 1950s, died that way. USAF. He was piloting a plane that got into trouble. He was giving a courtesy ride to some official. The passenger ejected, my uncle rode it down to a safe spot.

Looks like they were aiming for the lake, but the plane rolled right after they ejected.

A spokesperson for the event told Local 4 the MiG-23 aircraft crashed into the parking lot at the Waverly on the Lake Apartments in Belleville.
Ha! It was Russian!

People assume it’s a U.S. military pilot/jet.
My instinct is to scan the first paragraphs for that
No indication in this story
Military pilots will are trained to steer the jet to a safe crash zone
This is not an American military

That was an F-18 that lost both engines on approach to Miramar. It was controversial because one engine had failed and the pilot elected to land at Miramar, single engine. On approach the other engine failed.
Critics claim he should have diverted to North Island. Critics usually don't fly and have never flown high performance military jets.
