This issue of natural born citizenship comes up regularly here on Free Republic.

Some Freepers say, that both of your parents must have been American citizens at the time of your birth, for you to be a natural born citizen.

Other Freepers say, that as long as you were born in America, you are a natural born citizen, regardless of your parent’s citizenship. Those Freepers argue that such people didn’t have to go through the naturalization process to become a citizen, thus, they are natural born.

So which Freepers do we believe? Some threads on this subject have had hundreds of responses, with people on either side presenting evidence to support their point of view.

“natural born citizen”

The meaning of the term needs to be resolved by the courts.

My preferred meaning is not having foreign citizenship at birth.

The clause the term was in was undoubtedly intended to ensure 100% loyalty to the United States.
