President Biden on Thursday is expected to ask Congress for billions of dollars of additional funding for Ukraine's defense, a move that will lead to drama in the fall given heavy GOP opposition to the unchecked war funding seen under Biden over the last 18 months.
"It’s definitely a very big point of contention," a senior House GOP aide told Fox News Digital.
While there’s broad support for supplemental Ukraine aid in the Senate, it will be an uphill battle in the House, where Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., promised his narrow majority that he would not bring a supplemental Ukraine funding bill to the floor. Many conservatives, still bristling from McCarthy’s debt limit deal with President Biden, have been vocally opposed to giving Kyiv more money without more accountability.
"He can go with Democrats, but then the speaker puts himself in a tough spot if he chooses to do that," the aide said.
Last month, 70 House Republicans voted for an amendment in the annual defense bill that would cut off all funding to Ukraine, which has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for a year and a half.

Biden (the Deep State, actually) will throw the Republicans a bone. Vote for this Ukraine funding request, and we’ll send a few dollars your way. Maybe some money to repair a bridge in your district. Or maybe some money for your local volunteer fire department.
Deal done. Case closed.
That’s why opposition must be high profile.
With all the money Joe is sending to Ukraine, one might suspect that the big guy is getting more than the standard ten percent.

To advance his hidden agenda, then-Vice President Joe Biden’s tax-financed office sent talking points to the tax-financed State Department about Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky, founder of Burisma Holdings.
This was just days after Hunter Biden “phoned (his father in) D.C.” from Burisma’s board meeting, where Hunter was a million dollar a year member,emails show.
Archer described to House Oversight an elite coffee date he had with Hunter Biden, Zlochevsky and Pozharskyi following Burisma’s board meeting that appeared to take place Dec. 4, 2015.
Archer was asked to provide more specific information about Hunter’s phone call to his dad, according to the transcript of his testimony.
Archer could not confirm Hunter’s call to his father because he was not a part of the phone call. He did tell House Oversight that

Archer also testified that the Biden family “brand” protected Burisma.
Archer told Tucker Carlon that Burisma bigwigs viewed Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin as a “threat” .......that is to say until Joe Biden pressured Ukraine into pushing him out.
Shokin had Mykola Zlochevsky’s property raided in February 2016 as part of his investigation into the Ukrainian oligarch, Ukrainian media reported.
VP Biden was videoed infamously telling the Council on Foreign relations in Sept 2016. “.....[then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko] didn’t fire his chief prosecutor. And because I, VP Biden, “have the confidence of the president,” he said: I’m not signing it. Until you fire him, we’re not signing, man. Get it straight. We’re not doing it.”
Burisma hired lobbying firm Blue Star strategies to make further inroads with high ranking D.C. officials in November 2015. In a May 2022 Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) form, Blue Star disclosed two meetings it had in early 2016 with State Department officials on behalf of Zlochevsky and Burisma.
Zlochevsky purportedly discussed alleged bribes sent to Joe and Hunter Biden totaling $10 million, according to an FBI FD-1023 form containing information provided by a confidential source.
