Groups opposed to Maine's new law expanding abortion access won't attempt to nullify the statute through a so-called People's Veto referendum.

Republican Rep. Laurel Libby, leader of the Speak Up for LIFE group, said Wednesday that allies have decided to focus their resources on electing candidates who are opposed to abortions instead of collecting signatures and running a referendum campaign.

“At the end of the day, we want to put our effort into the most effective place possible,” Libby, a Republican from Auburn, told The Associated Press. That means flipping legislative seats, she said, particularly in the Maine House.

pretty much carte blanche to destroy the lives of unborn babies in Maine.

And the pro-life movement is throwing up a white flag? or is it really the best to go slow and try to elect pro-life reps and overturn the law?

Cuz the culture and our children are dying in the meantime.

“won’t attempt to nullify the statute through a so-called People’s Veto referendum. “

The referendum would almost certainly fail. Going the legislature route is more likely to result in an abortion ban.

We are at war (some of us, anyway ... ‘way too many fence-sitters on the supposed “right”); war requires hard decisions.

Will a referendum expend a lot of political capital, and fail anyway?

Can pro-life candidates be counted on to become pro-life legislators?

Does the problem originate with “We the People” of Maine? Does the culture need to be changed before politics can be changed?

Because it would lose, badly. The GOP is losing in every state on abortion right now. Either the messaging sucks, their messaging is superior, or the culture has shifted permanently towards pro-death.

Some of each, but mostly #3.

Having been born and raised in Maine but haven’t lived there in well over 40 years id recommend legalizing euthanasia for the Maine democrats. They’ve been brain dead since 15 March 1860 when they split off from Massachusetts.

Cede the abortion issue and focus on others that matter like the 2a.

I don't know why the 2a is important anymore. According to Freepers the country is 2 steps away from being Nazi Germany and yet no one has used the second amendment for its stated and intended purpose.

If America magically had the gun laws of the UK, I doubt it would directly or indirectly change the country one bit in a political sense.

This country will probably be more like Russia or China if it wasn't for our 2a.

In theory, yes. In practice it has probably only resulted in unnecessary deaths.

Wasn’t ME split from MA as part of the Missouri Compromise of

It cost us the Senate last time. Period. It is lost. But too many just cannot let it go. Would rather be full Orwell than give an inch.
