They’re not going to convict. It won’t even get to the juries, with these farkakteh legal theories. SCOTUS will see to that. And campaigning from prison has been done. Eugene V. Debs, 1918. Spoke out against American involvement in the war and was imprisoned. He was a socialist. Trump is not. And he’s coopted their supposed base, the working class, and made them believers in non-crony capitalism.
If Woody Guthrie were around today, he’d be a MAGA Republican, and composing songs about illegal immigration, the J6 scam, Covid, and the “glorious triumph” of Afghanistan. Roseanne was a socialist once, too, and Thomas Sowell used to be a Marxist, as was David Horowitz. Republican Party is now the party of the working man, though the “leadership” hasn’t caught on yet.
So it’s pure irony that they are attempting to make him campaign from jail, a la EV Debbs.

Oh, and you’re absolutely correct about Debbs. That’s the problem. Trump WILL insist on remaining the nominee, the Republican Party won’t be able to stop him, and he’ll lose in the biggest landslide imaginable because even 50% of Republicans say they wouldn’t vote for Trump if he’s convicted.
