Is this base in the middle of nowhere?
No. It’s in or near Killeen, TX, but there is a lot of open ground within the base area. It’s a huge facility.
Out of ammo and can’t provide chow.
Yeah, we’re battle ready.
*mega sigh*
I was in an Infantry Support Battalion so we had trucks the ran all night, transportation units, field service units, medical unit etc so even in the field we served hot food sometimes trucked remote in Merrimack Cans (those insulated cases with the three inserts.). I remember setting up for a field exercise in mess tents and the whole nine yards out at Fort Riley on the ridge above Funston and we got hit by a tornado wall cloud.
They’re probably not smart enough anymore to think of doing that.
The higher-ups, I mean.
Well, from that photo, they sure don’t look underfed.

Also from the photo: I sure don’t recall seeing any salad bars in mess halls.
Would have felt better about the Air Force Chow halls if they didn’t always park an ambulance right by it.

I can’t complain really. I was a scrawny 6’ tall, 144 pounds when I enlisted. 4 years later at my exit physical I was still 6’ tall but weighed 222 pounds. Now I’m still 6’ tall, 78 year old man and weigh 180.
Tell all you know, friends, family, veterans, young and old to NOT participate, do NOT join, do not think of joining

That’s the advice I give to my grand children, both male and female. So far, only one of 15 grands has enlisted, I tried my best to talk him out of it, it was like trying to talk to a brick wall.
I saw others had mentioned those same sentiments as well down thread.
I always try to make a positive outcome. There is a bright side to this.
With the implementation of the new "woke" military
many experienced veterans are leaving service...
and entering the civilian environment.
Let's not fool ourselves on the state of the world right now.
Those same experienced veterans, and all of those before them,
stand ready now, just like then, to defend this nation.

How many more has he, and others, picked up?
An enemy might infiltrate or attack, but attrition would get an invader in the end.
Destroy your enemy from within...cough...JOE BIDEN...cough
Americans hunt game at up to 500 yards.
Don't start nothing, won't be nothing.
Hey “base officials” get your butts out of the chair and go help.
Plenty of work peeling potatoes..washing up...serving the meals for the fighting force.

Like that’s ever gonna happen in a gazillion years.
Still pulling on that come-a-long.
It will always be Fort Hood to decent Americans.

The one that really gripes my ass is the naval ship USS Harvey Milk. Naming a United States ship after a pedophile queer is just too damned much.
I’m a vet but not a Navy vet, I have deep respect for all 5 branches and no one can ever validly accuse me of denigrating any of them.

I recall a group of us being told by the First Sgt. what to do if hit by a tornado.

Mess cranking isn't cooking. Mess cranking is cleaning dishes, pots, and pans.
Been there, done that.
Bologna sandwiches and chips/candy or such.

Sounds like a jail house meal to me.
(Or so I’m told by a friend)
If they absolutely had to pick a gay Navy veteran to name a ship after, they could've gone with Rock Hudson. He at least served honorably.
Yeah, me too. Six months of it.
