Time is running out for DeSantis to prove he isn’t just Diet Trump
Telegraph ^ | 9 August 2023 | Tony Diver

The Florida governor's campaign is wobbling as he struggles to convince voters he is not merely a lighter version of his big rival

Ron DeSantis’s new campaign manager could prove to be the shot in the arm his ailing presidential bid needs.

The Florida governor is flailing amid a media narrative that his campaign has failed to inspire the support of enough Republican primary voters ahead of the first public debate on August 23.

...His supporters hope that the change of personnel, which also includes the appointment of former Ted Cruz strategist David Polyansky as deputy campaign manager, will also produce a change of message.

Recently, he said outright that Mr Trump lost the 2020 election, a statement he had previously avoided in an attempt to appease his supporters.

The two-hour television event could also see him define himself against Mr Pence, Mr Scott, Ms Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, who is being touted as Mr Trump’s potential running mate.

A more muscular approach, led by an aggressive rebooted campaign team, has the potential to establish himself as a more serious contender before he goes head-to-head with Mr Trump in another debate later in the campaign.

“It’s big for DeSantis, because if this goes terribly, then that’s going to really be a blow to his campaign,” Mr Johnson said.

“You can only have so many resets. This is important for DeSantis to stay afloat.”

“Time running out?” No, just desperation by Trump and Trump supporters to eliminate any meaningful competition. There are still 159 days until the first caucuses and primaries, a lifetime. All DeSantis has to do at the moment is tread water, outwait Trump.

What’s wrong with being Diet Trump?

People love Coca-Cola, but they don’t love the calories. Hence, Diet Coke and Coke Zero.

People love Trump, but they don’t love Trump’s drama.

Why not have the policies without the drama queen?

Maybe he’s do better if he stopped bashing the guy 60% of the Republicans love.

All DeSantis has to do at the moment is tread water, outwait Trump.

That's definitely his calculation.

I wonder if he's asked himself though whether there will be anyone left to vote for him if things play out the way he's hoping.

A couple of observations from someone you didn’t ask, and who doesn’t know much about anything. So take it for what it is worth...

In Ohio, issue 1 got crushed. As I walked into my polling place, I noticed scores of “progressive looking” women either waiting to vote, or who had voted. What is “progressive looking”? I can only tell you I know it when I see it, and by the results, I was right on that count.

My conclusion is that the sometimes irrational, emotion driven progressive women are a powerful force. What is my point? My interactions with the commies here in the blue part of Ohio, tell me progressive women will turn out in full force to vote against Donald Trump. If I’m correct, and I sincerely hope that I’m not, these women will turn the election.

DeSantis has just destroyed himself.
I don’t mean for POTUS, I mean he may have committed political suicide in Florida.

People here didn’t want Trump lite. They wanted Trump policies, Trump Economy, Trump American and Americans first, the wanted control of FedGov, peace and prosperity. They wanted voting to matter. They want fair voting, not the stuff we got in Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Colorado, NM, and many other states where it’s completely ballot harvesting or corruption. Desantis needed to be all of that, speak to all of that, lay out plans for control of crooked FBI and government, and not pick stupid fights.

DeSantis picked a different route. He meets with big R donors, the same people who were funding the Lincoln project. He doesn’t say a word about the DOJ or FBI, or the dirty elections. He FAILED to distiguish himself from the same (R’s) that attacked Trump. He took the money, he went along with the crazy of the DOJ and FBI....but he took on Disney.

I like DeSantis, and for the most part I think he has done a great job as governor. I didn’t support Trump because I liked Trump, I supported someone controlling the money laundering of tax payers money and destruction of jobs and US manufacturing that has been both parties and government for 30 years.

No candidate can compete in the environment Trump being indicted nearly every week. The news and attention is 24x7 Trump. Heck, even Republicans in Congress are not on the spot being forced to impeach Biden because Trump is top of the news and they can get away with talk that few hear.

Trump is top of the polls because he is a martyr of persecution, not because he has earned or would be the best winning 2024 Republican candidate.

He has one opening but he and the rest of the paid trolls know he is paid off otherwise he could take it. He could come out against the vaccines. He is not his own man... Meanwhile the paid trolls will go get another booster and they will be gone soon.

It’s called survival. The election is a marathon and despite people wishing it to be immediately over an anoint Trump, that ain’t happening.

Personally, I don’t know. I’d rather not see Trump on the 2024 ballot, I think he’d lose but not sure if DeSantis can successfully make the case. He’s got a poor campaign team and I do not like that he has Christina Pushaw on it. Time will tell.

Nice list, but how many ended once he left office? Too few were lasting legislative accomplishments. Besides, a list of failures is equally long, topped by incomplete border wall, no mass deportations, etc.

He’s not like “diet Trump” at all. RdS is the New Coke Trump. Thanks, but I’ll stick with Classic MAGA.

Desperation? The only desperate people are you and the rest of RDS’s FR DeSciples. The only way your man wins the nomination is if Trump is denied it by the RNC and you know that!

He’s lost all credibility only because he threw his hat in and went all “politician” too early. He blew it and probs my will never recover because we will remember his stupid campaign. He’s not “diet”; he’s a loser. I hope he keeps up his conservative track record, but he’s sunk as a president for conservatives. We all know him as “that stupid RINO looking jackass” now. All his own fault.
