It will be interesting to hear exit polls and surveys, as to why so many Republicans voted no.
This issue has been portrayed as a proxy vote on the abortion issue, but was it really? Is it possible many Republicans really didn’t want to make it more difficult to amend the constitution, which is what this vote was about, strictly speaking?
True. I thought it was dumb to begin with. It works against both sides. Say republicans want to ban gender mutilation for under 18 and want it in the state constitution. They’d make it difficult to get the signatures for the ballot and then need 60 percent approval. Republicans didn’t think this through at all.
Abortion played a big role. President Trump has the right position on Abortion, where the Electorate is.
And there it is...
Strictly speaking? Yes. But short term, republicans wanted this in place before November since there’s a chance a longer term abortion bill will appear on the ballot and they are afraid it will pass if it’s a simple majority.
