DeSantis ditches his campaign manager, but it's a reset that may have come too late

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday completed the full-scale reboot of his once-promising presidential campaign, reassigning his campaign manager and elevating a loyal hand from his governor's office.

The news comes just weeks before the GOP field will face off in the first presidential primary debate in Milwaukee, a chance to reverse a summer that has seen DeSantis, Trump's best-positioned challenger, slip dangerously far behind former President Donald Trump in national polling.

Like every reset — DeSantis insists it's a "reload" — the real question remains on if DeSantis waited too long to execute the retooling. Past presidential cycles are littered with candidates who tried to fix things only to be washed out. Both President Trump and President Joe Biden ended their first successful runs with new campaign managers, but their experiences, especially Trump's, are an exception to the rule.

James Uthmeier, DeSantis' chief of staff in Tallahassee, will now lead his campaign, news first reported by The Messenger. DeSantis' former campaign manager Generra Peck, who also led DeSantis' midterm reelection romp, will remain as a chief strategist. Peck had been the subject of multiple reports questioning the direction of the Florida Republican's campaign.

As The Messenger pointed out, Uthmeier has no campaign management experience.

DeSantis trails Trump by 38 points in FiveThirtyEight's weighted national average. While pundits often dismiss early polling, FiveThirtyEight found that a review of 40 years of data shows that can be predictive and becomes even more so as we reach the second half of the year before state primary and caucuses begin. Even more concerning for the former governor is that he is also lagging behind Trump in Iowa...

The reality, as Politico summed it up recently, is that a DeSantis comeback this large and an accompanying Trump collapse would be unprecedented.

>>”Don’t you love how the left presumes they can decide who we can even vote for months before the first primaries? They want Trump and him alone.”

It’s the base that’s torpedoed DeSantis’s campaign, not the left. You sound like - and I’m not saying you are - but you sound like a paid operative trying to use reverse psychology. If you’re not a paid operative, you may want to think a little more before you post such tripe.

Every opinion that doesn't align with our own is... subversive, traitorous, psyops, whatever. I need a raise already.

Too late? The first state doesn’t even vote for 6 more months! This is still EARLY in the process.

Trump’s campaign is having trouble staying afloat too due to all the legal expenses. A $60 million dollar transfer from his campaign to his lawyers that no one is talking about, for starters. Wonder how long before he has to start funding it himself.

Or it can simply be wrong, like I believe your opinion to be, in this instance. If you genuinely believe the left prefers Trump, then I believe you are genuinely wrong. The barrage of Trump indictments alone, should indicate to you that it’s Trump they fear, not DeSantis.

Isn't disagreeing easier to embrace than trying to believe I am on FR making bank while dreaming up all kinds of paid psyop reverse psychology things? My opinion: The left prefers Trump as the GOP frontrunner, plain and simple.

Isn’t that what I said in both my comments to you? I acknowledged that you could just be wrong, rather than deliberately playing the role of controlled opposition for pay. But your initial comment about the left preferring Trump over DeSantis appeared to be such a blatant attempt at reverse psychology that I had to ask.

Some people use those tactics without being paid to do so, which may very well be the case with you, because it’s hard to believe anyone could genuinely believe something so ridiculous. For one thing, as I said earlier, the fact that the Biden administration has already indicted Trump three times, and each time the MSM furiously spins them to be serious indictments rather than the lawfare they clearly are, should be enough to demonstrate who the left fears the most.
