I can actually imagine that. All sorts of stuff falls off of trucks around here. Several months ago it was a huge excavator that fell off a truck moving it to a new construction site. When I was in my late teens, one night, near midnight, a guy lost a cabin cruiser off its trailer. This was on the highway about 500’ from my parents house. I was studying for an exam, heard it, went down to investigate, headed back to my p’s house to call the Sheriff. About the time I picked up the phone I heard a “bang” — a Chevy Corvette had hit the boat. I quickly gave the dispatcher the location and hurried back out. No one really hurt, but, the guy with the boat was on some sort of meds (or maybe off) and rather emotionally messed up. Luckily a State Trooper showed up and took control of the situation — the local Sheriff’s Deputies were a bunch of doofus’es. It was quite a night. Somehow I did ok on that exam the next day...

We had a kid get fired because he didn’t properly chain down a John Deere 310 backhoe. He only has his CDL for less than 3 months, and it was the first time he had to load the 310, and nobody showed him how to do it either. He didnt have enough chains and binders to secure it, took an offramp, the 310 shifted and over it went along with the trailer..... Ooops.

The messed up thing about it is the crew chief wasn’t held accountable because he was the one who sent the kid in to load up with no help.
