Brahmins arent all an economic elite.
And the economic elite there is mostly not Brahmin.
There are lots of poor Brahmins. By our standards even the elites of an Indian village would seem to be living in absolute misery.
India is a very complex place.
Just a taste -
Go look up the richest people in India. They aren’t Brahmins, they are mostly Vaishyas, the third step in the caste order, or the farmers and merchants.
The wealthiest, Mukesh Ambani, is a Vaishya.
The second, Gautam Adani, isnt a Hindu, but a Jain
The third, Lakshmi Mittal, is a Marwari, not quite a Hindu, of the Agarwal caste, whuch is analogous (but not the same) as the Hindu Vaishya. Btw, he’s on the board if Goldman Sachs.
et.
Tata is a huge business conglomerate in India, with huge foreign holdings as well. At one time they were the biggest company in India. They also happen to own the biggest employment agency supplying H1b workers. The Tata family, which own most of Tata group, arent Brahmins. They arent even Hindus. They are Parsis.
