Russia says JPMorgan stops processing its grain payments

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Russia said on Friday that U.S. bank JPMorgan had this week stopped processing payments for the Russian Agricultural Bank as Moscow demanded action, not promises, from Washington to help Russian grain and fertilizer reach global markets.

Moscow has a list of demands it wants met before it will return to a deal, which it quit on July 17, that had allowed the safe Black Sea exports of Ukraine grain for the past year. Under a related pact - also brokered in July 2022 - U.N. officials agreed to help facilitate Russian food and fertilizer exports.

"As soon as this is done, this deal will immediately be renewed," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters on Thursday that Washington would continue to do "whatever is necessary" to ensure Russia can freely export food if the Black Sea grain deal was revived.

A key Russian requirement has been the reconnection of the Russian Agricultural Bank to the SWIFT international payments system. It was cut off by the European Union in June last year following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

As a workaround to that demand, JPMorgan had been processing some Russian grain export payments with reassurances from Washington. However, that cooperation stopped this week, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"The direct channel between the Russian Agricultural Bank and JPMorgan, which the West and the United Nations tried to present as a working alternative to SWIFT, was closed on Aug. 2," foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was quoted by Russian media as saying.

The United Nations declined to comment. The U.S. State Department and JPMorgan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I’m convinced the highest levels of US Government are on woke- neocon autopilot. No one is really in charge.

Biden is a vegetable, and no other faction in Fed.gov dares confront the deep-state war-faction

Its like China during Mao’s cultural revolution. Since real policy is nuanced and needs discussing and agreement, no one was really sure what Mao was thinking, and common sense was lacking, everyone in government simply “defaulted” to the most leftist/radical position, or inaction.

This last line is most interesting. Lots of comments made by lots of PR talkers on all sides, and then when something observable is observed, all those big mouths just can;t be found....

I suspect the world is breaking apart into that "multipolar" order which seems was true for the largest swath of history before some "unipolar" or "rules-based" order asserted itself with certain folks atop and many folks beneath in the pyramidal structure.

When those "atop" -- in any historical era -- were no longer "atop," chaos was THE rule. And those atop fell from exalted places.

Sadly, the bulk of the grain sent to Africa, got rerouted after it left port to the EU. Fricking lyers and thieves, the US and the EU are destroying any trust the rest of the world has in us. They’re just plain Psychopaths!

This needs to change — by legislation. Otherwise we will be ruled by leftist-run banks.

“Chase is a private company that does not have to do business with Russia.”

Or you.
Or me.
Or anyone who posts to FreeRepublic.
Or anyone buys or sells a firearm.
Or anyone who contributes to a Conservative cause.
Or anyone in town they disapprove of even if they are the only bank in a small town.

Kudos on an excellent point. Truly very fine.

I quote a certain Chinese Communist from 1957: "What should our policy be towards non-Marxist ideas? As far as unmistakable counter-revolutionaries and saboteurs of the socialist cause are concerned, the matter is easy, we simply deprive them of their freedom of speech. But incorrect ideas among the people are quite a different matter. Will it do to ban such ideas and deny them any opportunity for expression? Certainly not. It is not only futile but very harmful to use crude methods in dealing with ideological questions among the people, with questions about man's mental world. You may ban the expression of wrong ideas, but the ideas will still be there. On the other hand, if correct ideas are pampered in hothouses and never exposed to the elements and immunized against disease, they will not win out against erroneous ones. Therefore, it is only by employing the method of discussion, criticism and reasoning that we can really foster correct ideas and overcome wrong ones, and that we can really settle issues."

Both points highlighted above are seen today in America as sometimes on Free Republic's couple of daily threads.

Try to silence some, and try to "hot house" others by pampering (approval and applause) , so that these can be employed in "the method of discussion, criticism and reasoning that we can really foster correct ideas and overcome wrong ones."

From this we learn the opponent -- Marxist as Democrat as postmodernist -- see there are "correct" ideas politically. These predict, as did Mao, that such will "overcome wrong ones."

I rather favor 'wrongthink,' when compared to 'doublethink.' Best wishes.

Correct.

But that is the mechanism the UN and US set up for Russia to access the SWIFT network.

JP Morgan agreed to do it.

What bank is not private? This is a terrible precedent. It will affect American’s greatly when they buy in totally to Biden’s woke agenda….gun buyer? Account cancelled….a registered Republican?….account cancelled….refusing Biden’s dangerous and ineffective vax? …account cancelled…and on and on.

That said, Chase is an instrument of this corrupted regime, they issue student loans, and participate in many government financial dealings. You really need to rethink your position, you will be eating crow.
