....However, the Florida Department of Education said it didn’t ban the course, and blamed the College Board for “playing games.”

“Just one week before school starts, the College Board is attempting to force school districts to prevent students from taking the AP Psychology Course,” the DOE said in a statement. “The Department didn’t ‘ban’ the course. The course remains listed in Florida’s Course Code Directory for the 2023-24 school year. We encourage the College Board to stop playing games with Florida students and continue to offer the course and allow teachers to operate accordingly. The other advanced course providers (including the International Baccalaureate program) had no issue providing the college credit psychology course.”

Well, that’s a start. Now to teach the children to pray.

wow, my psych 101 course (decades ago) never got into the topic of imagined gender/race self-identification.

i imagine that the instructor probably figured that the hans christian anderson childrens’ story of “the emperor with no clothes” probably “covered” it...

Who to believe: the Associated Press or the State of Florida?

There is big a difference between Introduction to Psychology and Abnormal Psychology. Left-progressives believe there is no such thing as normal, therefore no such thing as abnormal. These are both social constructs. As left-progressives took over the academic world, they attacked the former distinctions of normal and abnormal. Homosexuality was no longer abnormal. Nor trans, bestiality, pederasty or what have you.

Obviously, as all advanced life depends on sexual reproduction, this is something fundamental and the psychology of sexual reproduction among humans is a proper subject for introduction to psychology.

If STEM science is being destroyed by the Woke Movement (declared racist), one can only imagine what has happened to behavioral “sciences.”

Why are high school students taking psychology? To start the indoctrination at a younger age?

I see this as an admission by the Deep State - Leftist cabal that they are using psychology, psychologists/therapists as one way to control people.

They're letting the cat out of the bag. Either they don't care or they think it's too late to stop them...

It was an elective for high school seniors in Fargo, ND in 1966.

High school students have no business taking a course in psychology. And it’s truly a pseudoscience anyway.

Same thing with sociology. Durkheim was a functionalist.

I had it as a Senior in high school in 1993.
No deviant behaviors were discussed.

Sadly, the APA is behind a lot of this child exploitation crime. It’s DSM 5 is nothing but a rewrite of psychology to allow groomers.

Very good!

Were people attending church in greater numbers, the need for psychiatric intervention would be greatly reduced and we would be much happier.

BTW, Psychology is not a science.

I wonder if the AP Psych exam is filled with a bunch of woke tripe. My high school didn’t have a psychology course. I doubt if any high schools did in the 70’s and earlier. I did have PSY 101 in college. It was a nice easy blowoff course that fulfilled a general requirement and made it easier to have multiple math and comp sci courses in the same semester. The course wasn’t filled with a bunch of things about gender denial.

My guess is that the educational changes in Florida are going to be attacked by every leftist angle possible. It wouldn’t surprise me that the College Board will expand their attack to include AP Biology.

Why are high school students taking psychology? To start the indoctrination at a younger age?

Psychology 101 (AP-college courses taken in H.S.), based on memory, covers things like:
The senses in order to understand how humans gather information.
Brain function for the same reason.
Various behavior theories and well known psychologists; Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Jung's collective unconscious, classical conditioning (does the name Pavlov ring a bell?), BF Skinner's behaviorism, Sigmund Freud's id, ego and super ego, etc. etc.

The things they are complaining about are more properly placed in an Abnormal Psychology course. Sexual identity issues were listed as mental illness until these current delusions took hold. The DSM - Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - used to classify the alphabet soups as having mental illness. Now it is all considered normal because if a trans is told they are not their preferred gender they may exhibit the perfectly normal reaction of shooting up a school.

This is a bull $#!+ effort on the part of "educators" to pretend that the evil DeSantis is preventing them from doing what is right and proper. Classic leftist propaganda; they are very wrong and improper.

Short answer to your indoctrination question: Yes.

“High school students have no business taking a course in psychology.”

AP means “Advanced Placement” It is a course taken by HS seniors that gives them credit for the class in university. thus shortening the length and reducing cost of a university program. Not everyone takes these courses.

But the content of the course can be hideous. I refused to teach an AP history class because of the content
