President Joe Biden’s (D) ban on incandescent light bulbs begins today, limiting what types of lighting will be available for purchase.
American consumers will only be able to buy LED lights because of the Department of Energy rules that require manufacturers to only offer such bulbs, MLive.com reported Tuesday.
Leada Gore writes:
The switch means were [sic] incandescent or halogen incandescent – which accounted for roughly 30% of light bulbs sold in the U.S. in 2020 – will soon be a thing of the past. And while retailers won’t be allowed to sell the bulbs, there are no prohibitions stopping from people using bulbs they currently own.
The DOE predicts consumers will save about $3 billion per year on utility bills once the change is complete. The rules are also projected to cut carbon emissions by 222 million metric tons – an amount equivalent to the emissions generated by 28 million homes in one year, the Biden administration said.
However, LEDs are more pricey, with the average cost up to $7 each, while incandescent light bulbs cost around $2 apiece.

I do too. I kept them around “just in case.” LEDs give me headaches, no matter which ones I purchase. I’m about ready to start buying candles that can be burned in the home and used as a lighting source. If anyone has suggestions, please share.
“If these so-called savings were actually the case, then why are people not already lined up and buying LED bulbs? “
Many are. I am totally LED.
Go browse the light bulb aisles at Lowes or Hone Depot. The market has spoken,
“How are chicken farmers going to keep the eggs warm in incubators?”
Incubators don’t use light bulbs for heating.
“I stocked up on incandescents when this crap was started several years ago. Still have enough to last my lifetime.”
I installed LEDs a few years ago. So far, no replacement stock needed.
“I would like to know what we are supposed to use when the oven light burns out.”
Go to Walmart and get a new bulb.
That is the case … keep answering the questions. If people are buying and the market has spoken, why does it have to be mandated? Find me where in the constitution the power is granted to government to tell the people what can and cannot be sold. Eff the government and every lazy ass POS government employee that has never built a damn thing in their lives.
“If people are buying and the market has spoken,”
Not if.
“why does it have to be mandated?”
Politics
The black market roars, “CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!”
There is no LED available to match the Lumens that a 200 or 250 incandescent bulb puts out.
Old people will have a hard time reading now.
No. Not politics. Eff’n commies.
Stupid ignorant reply.
You can’t use an LED or CFL in an oven because of the heat.
“No. Not politics. Eff’n commies.”
You do realize that at that level the commies run the politics.
“Stupid ignorant reply.
You can’t use an LED or CFL in an oven because of the heat.”
ROTFLMA! Yours is the ignorant post. Special purpose bulbs are exemp. You will continue to find oven bulbs at Walmart.
Hope somebody was smart to buy as many as they could they are collector items now.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
When most things go obsolete cash flows.
“what authority does the government make something like a lightbulb illegal to begin with!?!?!”
The same “authority” that made cigarettes illegal, in PRIVATELY OWNED AND OPERATED BUSINESSES. It was the most egregious overreach of this government ever and proved that the government can take away any right we may have or hope to have. It was this simple, you don’t want to be around cigarette smoke, don’t patronize the business, go to a non-smoking establish. So now we have to live with ugly, stark, cold lighting in our homes, THE SAME HOMES WE PAY FOR.
Sorry, been busy over the past few months... I haven't been up to speed on this particular issue.
Congress banned it, possibly during Soetero. Pres Trump put a stop to it. Biden reinstituted the ban.
So no one could find out before if heat lamps were banned. I guess the only test is to try to buy one now.
Oh, that's right... thanks for that reminder.
I remember now when President Trump put a stop to the ban of incandescent light bulbs (thank you, President Trump!). I'm surprised it took Biden so long to reinstitute the ban....
What happened to the enviro Nazis screaming save the trees? ( paper bags)…simple, they realized their mistake and were killing huge amounts of animals with their plastic bags….I eagerly await the unintended consequences of banning incandescent bulbs.
