Republican campaign strategist Ed Rollins is turning away from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' 2024 presidential campaign, calling DeSantis a "flawed candidate" in a recent Rolling Stone interview.
"I don't think it's the campaign's fault at all; it's his," Rollins told the publication. "I think he's been a very flawed candidate. I know some of the people around him, and some of them are good, talented people.
"But every time he opens his mouth, he has a tendency to — shall we say — think out-loud, and he clearly doesn't understand the game. … When you get into these culture wars the way that he has, the vast majority of people don't understand what they are."
Rollins, an adviser who has worked in several high-profile races, once served as the chief political strategist for the Ready for Ron PAC supporting DeSantis' bid for the White House.

Wow! The Ready 4 Ron Super PAC is abandoning ship.
Rollins is a deep stater from way back.

If he had not turned on Trump, he probably would be on the ticket and had a decent chance in 2028. This was a major, major error.
True, but he was a big Trump supporter.
I’m not as much of a DeSantis fan as I once was, but being trashed by a piece of trash like Rollins is kind of an honor.
He is also very ugly, with an ugly haircut. His wife’s beauty will not rescue his ugly meatball face.
Rollins was good enough for Ronald Reagan.
DeSantis made a huge tactical error by embracing Karl Rove, Paul Ryan, and the corporate elites.
He could have had a huge jump start on 2028 by just waiting.
Until he doesn’t want to do something unconstitutional and illegal.
Its become obvious that the great white hope of Desantis being a Trumpslayer isn’t playing out.
If DeSantis is even still formally a candidate by the time FL votes in Mid March I’ll be surprised.
No one wants the humiliation of being the sitting governor of a state and losing the primary there.
Yes He should have waited, he had a near lock on 28 whether Trump beat the rat or not. The Ill advised decision to run now was a huge mistake.
“DeSantis made a huge tactical error by embracing Karl Rove, Paul Ryan, and the corporate elites.”
He had no choice, nor do the rest of the field, they need the establishment donor classes money, so just like 16, they will all line up to suckle at their tits, which will make them non starters to the base.
This is exactly the same reason Trump was the nominee in 16... he understood where the electorate was, and was free to actually go speak to them about the issues that they cared about, not the issues the Donor class did.
The rest had to suckle off these donors, who waned open borders, who wanted cheap labor, who wanted to continue to sell out American as long as they got to put a cut in their own back pockets.
To this day NO ONE would be talking about illegal immigration of the border if it had not been for Trump they would have pushed through some amnesty or another by now. etc etc etc.
Tucker’s interviews a few weeks back show exactly how out of touch the establishment is.... what they think is important vs what you think is important are oceans apart, and no one is going to pay more than the most minor lip service to what you think is important because the big money mens needs and desires are completely the antithesis of yours.
Precisely. If he quits now, and I mean today, he still has a chance, albeit small, in '28. We tend to have short memories. But at this point, he seems to be quadrupling down and that is going to destroy him. Sad, but no one to blame but himself.
Maybe the problem was folks like Rollins, a very old school GOP guy. Maybe Desantis lowered expeectations was due to following advice from the likes of Rollins.
A year ago, we were pretty set; Trump in 2024 and then DeSantis in 2028 and reelection in 2032. Now, it’s too early to guess who might be a viable candidate in 2028. Maybe DJT’s VP.
I loved what DeSantis was doing in Florida - I remember laughing and cheering when he sent the illegals to Martha’s Vineyard.
I instantly loathed him when he announced. It’s a matter of character. He exposed himself as someone who was more interested in how own political ambitions than what was very much needed for the country and the MAGA base.
I can’t imagine that he was so blinded by ambition, money and fake “friends” that he thought the MAGA base would come out and vote for him AFTER such a snake move on Trump. Unreal. Truly blind to what’s going on.
Nuff said.
