- Make something free and the demand for it will go up dramatically.

- Even if you pay physicians and other health care workers nothing, health care expenses will still go up and you will still outstrip the public money supply.

- If you don't have to pay anything to have your car repaired you won't care so much about preventative maintenance. Same principle in health care.

- If you made Dom Perignon free to everyone, and forced the champagne maker to produce more bottles per year and at a lower price, Dom Perignon would stop being Dom Perignon. Such is what will happen to the quality of health care as a consequence of pushing up volume and workload at the same time you are cutting what you pay per patient.

Take a look at MacDonald’s. They still have the cheap product, make it cost more, and the service and product gets cheaper all the time. So it doesn’t have to be quality stuff...just stuff. Next on the list is Thunderbird.
