“Pushaw is mentioned frequently in the article.”

People who think DeSantis dropped out of heaven to save humanity may want to get to know Christina Pushaw a bit better. Basically makes Hillary look like minor league stuff.

This is funny in so many ways. Earlier today, Ed Rollins told the Hill “it’s not the campaign’s fault,” that DeSoros was “a very flawed candidate” (true). But that’s spoken like a campaign consultant.

In May, Rollins had said DeSantis “will be our next president,” and now he says he would be “shocked” if Trump didn’t win.

So we have 1) It’s the campaign’s fault; 2) DeSoros is a “flawed candidate,” or my take 3) There were overwhelming structural issues that the DeSoros campaign couldn’t begin to overcome, namely that Trump was an incumbent, essentially; that Trump had saved DeSoros in 2018 (and now he’s lying about it); that DeSoros had to start not only from a position of DISLOYALTY but also DISHONESTY by saying he hadn’t decided whether he was going to run.

Voters see that, and they don’t like either of those qualities.

I don’t think attacking Trump will help DeSanctus get traction with MAFA voters.

Sure, Low-T anti-Trumpers will cheer and toast their soy lattes. But Rob has their votes already.

Trump has transmogrified into a symbol that galvanizes MAGA voters. - he has ascended to the embodiment on MAGA to his voters.

People do not like you to attack their symbols. In fact, it makes them hate you.

By attacking Trump, DeSanctus is attacking Making America Great Again, and Trump’s supporters.

If anything, resorting to this type of subterfuge screams that few want DeSanctis on his merits - and his message falls on deaf ears as a Presidential message.

Rob jumped the shark a while back. His show won’t be renewed for a new season. He just doesn’t understand what happened yet.

My 2 cents.

The fundamental problems for DeSantis are bad campaign management and a candidate with a shaky grasp of political fundamentals. Conservatives and Republicans are constrained in their use of negative campaign methods in that any missteps will be traced back and dropped on your doorstep by the news media and Democrat dark money groups. That means that hoaxes, smears, and excessively clever slams against your opponent can easily backfire.

Moreover, with the GOP electorate loyal to Trump, DeSantis cannot hope to beat him. The best that DeSantis can do is to establish himself as the preferred, most Trump-like alternative if Trump himself is taken out by the Biden administration's legal attacks. In effect, DeSantis and other GOP candidates have to position themselves like potential suitors to a highly attractive prospective widow with an ailing husband. As they hover about, they have to act as if they hope the husband pulls through while consistently being their charming best in case he does not.

In short, DeSantis and his B-list campaign team simply do not recognize that he has to carefully woo the GOP electorate without doing anything to contradict their affection and loyalty to Trump.

more interested in hearing about economy, or the process stories about politics

The story I hear is that the campaign wanted to have it both ways...and it backfired.

One thing to campaigns need to consider...inevitably a campaign that hires too many staff too early. Inevitably some of those staff will leave (for whatever reason) and they will tell stories about what happens on the inside.

Either don’t go fat early...or make sure your campaign doesnt create its own distractions. This latter is near impossible in a good campaign...so consider the don’t go fat early path.
