Getting along with a nation that has the world’s largest nuclear weapons stockpile is a good thing, former US President Donald Trump has said, as he reiterated his claims that he could defuse the Ukraine conflict in a matter of hours.
“The fake news hates when I say I know [Russian President Vladimir Putin] well. They hate when I say I got along with him. You know, it’s good to get along,” he told supporters at a campaign rally in Erie, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
“They have more nuclear weapons than us, or just about the same, but a little more than us,” he said, adding that “nobody ever talks about that” when discussing the Ukraine conflict.
The US is in a “very stupid, dangerous position right now,” Trump said.
Well, he ain’t wrong.
Trump thinks Russia is this big sprawling thing that extends from the Baltic states to the Pacific, when in fact ‘Russia’ is a few hundred ultra-rich families and party insiders that control everything, skim the profits for lavish lifestyles while the great bulk of the population live in crushing squalor. That’s ‘Russia’.
Talked to an older liberal white woman last week. She wants to take all AR-15’s from white American men and send them to Ukraine.
When I came up with some counter points she closed her eyes, clenched her fists and shook her head.
About eighty years ago we improved our relations with Germany and Japan. That’s how we need to improve relations with Ruzzia.
Well, when Trump was President we had good relations with Russia, China and North Korea. The Biden administration has squandered all that good will instead of building on it.
I dislike Russia as a country, by my distaste for them is matched by my dislike and distaste for Ukraine.
Sounds like Rodney King.
“a few hundred ultra-rich families and party insiders that control everything, skim the profits for lavish lifestyles while the great bulk of the population live in crushing squalor”
You just described the United States right now
Thirty years ago the USSR collapsed internally into division and failure due to decades of decay.
The USA handled it poorly, and we ended up here.
When the collapse and division of the USA happens, let’s hope that the Russian Federation deals with the collapse of its geopolitical opponent better than the West did.
We’re not even close to their situation.
I’m no fan of Russia, but it was clear to me that a big part of “Russiagate” was a move to make it absolutely impossible for Trump and Putin to “seek their own level” in a relationship since anything Trump did was tainted by the insinuation that he was influenced by Russia.
I believe that Russiagate was a creation of the Clinton/China connection to make it impossible for us to reach a natural accommodation with Russia.
How does that differ from DC and their elitist donors?
Posted the same thing. Can’t stand the corrupt federal governments of Russia, Ukraine, or our own. Stop sending money to launder via Ukraine.
We have BEEN in that situation for years now, but I would not expect some child still living at some rich home to understand that
Spacebar: ... while the great bulk of the population live in crushing squalor”
“You just described the United States right now”
LOL! Even our poorest don’t live in crushing squalor.
I’m still puzzled by the Democrats and Russia. Hillary had her “reset” button back in the day, and Obama mocked McCain for wanting to take a hard line with Russia. Obama removed missile systems from Poland and Czech in an effort to please Putin IIRC. So for a while there they were wanting to pal around with Russia, but then it’s a like a switch was thrown and suddenly Russia become and their big boogieman to be hated. It’s never been clear to me what precipitated that sudden and radical recalibration. The first thing that comes to mind is that Putin’s social conservatism clashed with the Democrats’ homo agenda which was hitting its stride during Obama’s second term. But their change of heart seems too sudden to have been that.
Look at the difference:
In 2018, Wagner attacked an American outpost in Syria and Trump immediately killed 200+ Russians, not one American dead.
Yet he met Putin with a smile and a nod because he knew Putin couldn’t even acknowledge the existence of Wagner in Syria.
In 2023, we’re pumping $150 billion into a war we’re losing, and we will lose because there’s no way NATO will commit to total war.
And Putin is using this to create his own group of allies that will in time destroy out financial situation.
We need a positive response from Russia. I don’t see how we can overlook their invasion of Ukraine. What we need to do is persuade them that their real risk is that China will take Siberia. They would lose big money in a war with China, and the whole world would suffer. Instead of fighting with the west, we need them to align with the west.
