I was thinking that they were plotting to keep Trump off of the GOP ballot in GA, at least, after his show trials conclude...of course they never consider, until later, what that means down-ballot, as in how it affects their own careers.
There is their political careers. Then there is their post-political careers.
That is why academic models of vote-maximizing politicians are naive.
They will leave politics eventually, and when they do their current donors will be their future employers.
