We knew Big Apple public housing is in dangerously bad shape — but it turns out it’s twice as bad as we thought.

New York City Housing Authority officials just revealed the $40 billion estimated in 2017 for the new roofs, pipes and boilers the aging projects need has ballooned to $78 billion.

They have created quite the mess there, and they are welcome to it. But they should not be welcome to Federal dollars being routed to fix these problems. As a Floridian (and a Georgian and Wisconsinite before that) not my problem.

The residents tear up those apartments as soon as they are fixed, sell whatever they can tear off for drug money. Then they have NO right to complain about the poor shape those units are in.

78 BILLION??? WTH??? It would be cheaper to just bulldoze the housing stock and let private companies rebuild there.

Just to see how stupid this is, get out your calculator.

$78 Billion divided by 330,000 residents comes out to over $235,000 per resident.

We could buy a family of 4 a $950,000 house for the same money...
